Official: Superhero, Comic Book, Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Horror, etc... FILM THREAD

I'm perfectly willing to be delighted if they crush this, but I worry that it's just going to be Rings of Power-level backfill.

Official: Superhero, Comic Book, Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Horror, etc... FILM THREAD

I feel like we need a movie (or a trilogy!) to explore what happened in the power vacuum caused by the death of the Great Goblin by Gandalf in the Hobbit movies. Surely there's a lot of drama there.

    Cars We Drive!

It's a good question--I think I probably could have squeezed a few more bucks out of each one during the pandemic, as prices for these kinds of cars spiked during that time. But I was more interested in selling them quickly, so I priced them accordingly. Both were gone within just a couple of...

    Cars We Drive!

I sold both for several thousand dollars more than I paid for them. If I conveniently forget repairs, maintenance, gas, and insurance costs, I actually made money!

    Cars We Drive!

Yeah, both private sale. I was happy with what I got for each of them.

Official: STAR WARS THREAD. These are the droids you're looking for. **WARNING MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS

NGL I still love the movies even though I recognize their flaws. It's when we get down to the TV shows/series that you start to lose me.

Thinned the herd a bit: sold the E30 and the Range Rover Classic this week. My wife is happy.

Things your dumb friends post on facebook

Many of the people who complain about the things they claim aren't taught in schools barely learned (or didn't learn) the things that are taught in schools. Why would we expect these other subjects to be any different?

    Cars We Drive!

Teh Google teaches me that there were no Deloreans painted from the factory. Apparently some dealers painted them but not the factory. https://www.deloreandirectory.com/articles/there-are-no-factory-painted-deloreans/

    Cars We Drive!

Has there been any comment from Elon? Or has he been ordered to shut up and take it? EDIT: Comments I'm seeing online suggest that the Cybertruck looks like a cheap knockoff of the Dongfeng truck instead of the other way around, LOL.

Official: STAR WARS THREAD. These are the droids you're looking for. **WARNING MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS

I never really thought about it before, but Skywalker is the only family name in the Star Wars universe that's like that. All the other names are like "Gurn Tlarbo" or whatever. One would think that at least someone else would be out there (Starkiller doesn't count).

Things That Are Bothering You, Got You All Hibbeldy-Jibbeldy, or just downright pissed, RIGHT NOW!

This is a good point--maybe it's better to think of the money as a proxy for attention and focus? Unfortunately, a lot of the times the "attention and focus" part is forgotten.

Things That Are Bothering You, Got You All Hibbeldy-Jibbeldy, or just downright pissed, RIGHT NOW!

I agree with this, but I am generally a little more concerned with the average student than the high performing ones. I think (and I'm happy to be shown I'm wrong) that making more resources available at lower performing schools will help average students achieve better outcomes than they would...

Things That Are Bothering You, Got You All Hibbeldy-Jibbeldy, or just downright pissed, RIGHT NOW!

The challenge is that every taxation system (except sales tax, I guess?) tends to take from some people and give to others. It's only because we've gotten used to the idea of local property taxes staying local that we think of a reallocation as "robbing" higher-income districts. TBH, for me...

Things That Are Bothering You, Got You All Hibbeldy-Jibbeldy, or just downright pissed, RIGHT NOW!

I agree in principle with the idea that higher-performing students should stay in their home districts, but I have a hard time condemning a parent who pulls strings to get the best education he/she can get for the kid. We have excellent schools where we are, but if they had been sub-par I would...

CA took a step in that direction with Prop 19, which mostly gutted Prop 58's parent/child reassessment exclusion. It took a step in the other direction by allowing seniors to move to a new home without having to lose their current property tax valuation, though.

Things That Are Bothering You, Got You All Hibbeldy-Jibbeldy, or just downright pissed, RIGHT NOW!

Schooling should be funded at the state level from pooled property taxes (or some other tax?) equally allocated across the entire state. It seems baffling to me for people to ***** about the quality of education in poor school districts when the current system virtually guarantees that it will...

    Motorcycles

I got an invite to ride with a new group of people on Saturday. They have been riding together for quite a while but I only know one of them (the guy who organizes it--he's a client). I'm sort of hibbely jibbely about whether 1) I will be able to keep up and 2) any of them are dangerous...

    Motorcycles

Dang. I'm glad it turned out okay and you didn't get hurt. I don't live in a city so I just make it a rule never to ride in cities. There are plenty of dumb drivers in the suburbs--I don't need twice as many cars on the road to make it any worse.
