The Devil's Lair - The ONI Denim Thread

Based on the summers where I am, the 20oz may be a bit heavy on the hottest days. If it's secret denim you are thinking about getting, it's quite a loose weave so it is manageable as long as it's not scorching hot. I have no experience with 15oz Oni. Which denim are you referring to...

Some very fine choices there! The type 3 is a legendary item IMO and I treasure my moca weft version. This olive weft version looks like it's going great for you. Love how the Kiwamis are coming along too. Wear these in good health!

I would also opt for the Galway. It's a classic for a reason. Not a fan of that London grain personally though

** Quintessential Crockett & Jones Thread ** (reviews, quality, etc...)

Dainite is less grippy and significantly harder on the foot than Ridgeway in my experience. Dainite is most suitable for wear on paving and even, dry non paved environments. Ridgeway is more of an all round sole useful for city walking and varied terrain in non paved environments. In terms of...

First wear of the Oni Black Secret Denim Type II is in the bag. This was the first time I have experienced the original Ayabe spinning factory secret denim and it has a significantly different hand than the regular secret denim. I sincerely hope that they find some other deadstock fabric rolls...

Indonesian Boot Makers (Onderhoud, Benzein, RenavGoods, Santalum, etc)

Sorry to hear this. I also have some Junkards on Dr Sole half soles and they are manageable in terms of flexibility. In general though, I am going to get all my Indonesian boots changed to single midsole as this is the major factor in lack of flexibility for me. Hope they come out much better...

@Nashville1986, I like the 246 for a great all around straight cut. If you like IH888, you may be interested in relaxed tapered cuts with space in the top block in which case I would recommend the 622. Be aware that the 622 has a ridiculously small leg opening so I would suggest trying on before...

Viberg Boots - Reviews, appreciation, news - share yours

I personally don't have a pair in black but I use Saphir Medaille d'Or Creme Pommadier for colour across all of my pairs. I use either Renovateur or Venetian Shoe Cream for conditioning depending on the leather. Your experience with the black HB may differ in terms of colour fastness. Depends on...

Viberg Boots - Reviews, appreciation, news - share yours

I second this. I have a pair of engineers from another brand in this leather and found it unbelievable how much the leather dye scuffs and abraids. Even rubbing against the inside of some loomstate jeans removes the dye. Quite strange as it only seems to affect the oiled leathers. I have pairs...

Been meaning to pay a visit to DC4. I have heard great things about this store. 14Oz are also supposed to have lots of deadstock Vibergs so I will pop over when I finally get my act together.

I bought the moca weft type 3 from SoaS and I can confirm that red and blue are synonymous with moca and olive-ish in this case. I have been shopping at this store for years and they are very reliable. Staff have a deep knowledge and will help you out with any questions that you may have.

    Best chino recommendations?

I have had Akka Denim's selvedge chinos for a couple of years now. Very solid pairs and the price is excellent. The may not match the quality of Soundman, Cushman, et al but are one third of the price and have held up very well in my couple of years use so far.

Oni has a few slubby fabrics. Check out the ones I mentioned to start but if you can find 22oz Kabuki, I would advise you to buy it.

I have had an OK experience with PBJ. Have the double indigo XX-18oz-019 and XX-003 jeans and both holding up well so far tbh. If you want something durable to prevent recurrence of your experience with PBJ, IH 21oz is where I would start. Very solid stuff indeed.

Yes, I have been eyeing Kiwami and Kihannen as my next acquisitions. There is also this 16oz Kabuki stuff. Having handled that, I was not convinced in the same way I was with the 22oz stuff. You can immediately feel the character and quality of the 22oz.

Those are my favourite jeans ever. Absolutely fantastic feel and visuals and very durable too. Mine are about 3.5 years old and, despite significant wear, are holding up brilliantly. I also have a couple of unworn pairs I am saving for "later". I love this fabric and it is such a shame that it...
