I went L with those exact same trousers when I can usually get away with M, I like the looseness in the thigh, waist, like yours is slightly big but fine with a belt and no obvious bunching. I do need them shortening but want to wear and wash a few times to ensure there’s no natural shrinkage...- Beedub

If they’re too big in the waist, that’s when you’re more likely to need to size down, I think voluminous thighs isn’t such a bad thing with fatigues, particularly with current EG cuts/ fits. I tend to take L/ XL in EG tops but M/L in bottoms, but everyone is shaped different, so that may not be...- Beedub

I had to get rid of pair of black EG sateen fatigues a few years back for the very same reason (in case it wasn’t obvious, it really bothers me!). I have some stonewash black Orslow fatigues and it’s not a problem because they’re basically grey so the lint doesn’t show up. It’s more the colour...- Beedub

Thanks both. I have some moleskin trousers but they’re a light sand colour so no issues with dust etc. as it doesn’t really show on them. Hoping that will be the case with the navy too.- Beedub

Workaday fit looser and come in the same fabrics each season (with the odd exception), usually reverse sateen. Mainline tend to fit slimmer and come in fabrics that match that season’s collection, there’s usually a ripstop but the selection of fabrics is much broader with mainline than Workaday.- Beedub

I have to admit, I do find the increasing amount of synthetic fabrics off-putting. I remember reading an interview with Angelo Urrutia and he talked about how he liked the contrast between items made from natural materials vs synthetics in an outfit. I think this combo is fine, the FAs in ripstop are less in your face than the cord. I think my issue is more with the fabric of mine, the large wale, combined with the sand colour of the cord makes them feel a bit frumpy.
