The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

Had an interesting chat with Herr Lederer in Geneva, I like what he is doing but he was adamant in his opinion that only Daniels and himself really understand the natural escapement and that the rest of the world are on the wrong track.

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

Disappointed to see this actual watch sell for half the lower estimate at today’s Only Watch sale. Apart from the flagship pieces, it was pretty much a washout. The Genta piece was stunning though, it had the best cloisonné enamel dial I have seen in ages. And I am including Anita Porchet.

1675 GMT Master, end of the 70s, from the Bond St Watches of Switzerland store which is now the Patek Boutique. Asked, politely, if there might be a discount should I pay cash, only to be told “Sorry sir, no discount on Rolexes - unless you would like one of our Daytonas, we can give you 20%...

It’s a very hefty watch and needs a substantial bracelet But, there are times when I wear it on a strap.

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

The piling on to Bremont's recent launch reminds me so much of the similar reaction to AP's launch of the Code 11:59 a few years ago. There were a few people who thought it interesting and an entire shipload of commentators who, in their kindest analogies, compared it to a cheap version of a...

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

I have known Jean A for about three years now and have to say that he is an interesting, remarkably humble guy who knows quite a lot about watches, but much more importantly - cares about watches. He doesn’t run the LVMH watch division, rather he runs the only watch brand outside the LVMH watch...

If you can't make up your mind over a Mk __, why not go for the original? Although, of the two models of MkXI, I much prefer the JLC; but the IWC version is much more numerous and easily found.

The two English brothers still retain positions at Bremont and a small shareholding, I believe. So they have not yet expressed any reservations about the new direction the company has taken. Interestingly, whilst most journalists expressed varying degrees of dislike for the new product, I had...

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

I was at the Patek boutique in Geneva for the launch of this year's RHC line, which includes clocks as well as watches utilising every conceivable skill. The one thing I learned was that these items are on an allocation basis, potential clients are notified several weeks ago with images of the...

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

What was interesting, to me, about these three, was what united them. They were each priced at €600,000, interesting price point when the market is supposedly contracting - perhaps the idea is to sell fewer watches, but at a much higher unit cost.
