The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

All are good watches, but my voite is for the 124060. The DJ was simply never a piece that truly interested me. It's a nice watch, but I'm a sports watch guy when it comes to Rolex. The only DJ I ever owned was a Oysterquartz DJ. I liked that one a lot because the case and bracelet were...

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

My first Rolex was purchased in 1984. It was a 16750 GMT Master. They didn't have one in stock, and had to order it. Back then discounts were easy to get on all Rolex watches in the US. I asked for a discount and they gave me 25% off the $1,325 MSRP. Steel Daytonas were $1,100 and the most...

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

Well, I'm not sure I'm a goody two-shoes :rotflmao:I just never really had any reason to think about money laundering. I am familiar with the idea of watches as currency, to the degree I know many of his have heard the stories in the past, or perhaps seen the discussion on this thread a while...

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

I didn't know that. I always presumed the people that bought at crazy high prices were just speculators, trust fund babies who just need the latest and greatest for their social media, or newbies with a lot of money who should have asked for advice from more seasoned watch fans.

You must be referring to older models, and even then, they are listed for more than what their MSRP was when new. I didn't see any current 41mm ceramic Subs for less than MSRP. The video was amusing, but anyone who was paying 5 to 10 times retail is just an idiot. The people I know that own...

Very interesting version of the Ellipse. I've seen several variations in the past, but not this one.

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

Thank you! I was a huge fan of VCs offerings in the past, especially pieces from the 90's and early 2000's and then things really changed. Into the mid to late 2000s when they discontinued the 2 register 37mm Historiques chronograph and replaced it with a watch that used the same Lemania based...

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

That's one where I really like the yellow gold version with the darker dial a bit more than the platinum. I'm hoping to see one when they arrive at boutiques later in the year. TBH, I've liked the gold versions of their recent releases more than the platinum versions, as I find many of the...

I couldn't agree more. I like the bezel profile, lugs, and dial far more on the past version of the Santos Dumont. The current Santos Dumont is nice, but there isn't a version of it that I actually want to own.

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

Gold is so soft that even if you have it polished, it will pick up faint hairline scratches on the polished parts very quickly. Even something as gentle as a soft cotton dress shirt cuff will cause that to happen after a few wears. So I tend to be hesitant about polishing watches, unless the...

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

A friend of mine has this watch with a silver/white dial and he's very happy with it. I think it's a nice watch, and a good value, but probably generally not the same value retention as bigger named brands (if you are someone who sells/trades comfortably). I'd have to see that dial in person...

Congrats on your new to your Movado! Really an interesting watch, with very cool lugs! Movado was a great brand with some interesting offerings back in the day. Wishing you lots of enjoyment from your new watch.

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

I looked at and tried on a few versions of the second gen Overseas and was underwhelmed. I say that as an owner of 2 VC dress watches. I think they just started to smooth out several design issues with the 3rd generation. A few months ago I visited the Newbury Street boutique with a few watch...
