I could be interpreting this wrong, but I think the link you provided means 300 new cases per day. You think that's low?

Yes, for a population of 7.5 million people with our population density, 300 cases (almost none of which are going to the hospital) is exceptionally low. For a miniscule fraction of corona cases, corona will be life threatening and require hospitalization. 90+% of people can treat themselves at home with OTC anti-fever.

Even if all that were true, you're spreading bullshit. It's not 100, and it's not 300. At best it's that much per DAY. And that's just what's being reported/diagnosed.

Per day. Sue me for speaking loosely. It is still miniscule. NY is not in any way a pandemic situation. If you think this is worrisome, then I am sure you must have been terrified with every flu season. When we were talking about a 1000+ deaths a day, that was worrisome. Our cases have been miniscule since June even with a gigantic uptick in testing.

Also: Our ICU rate is exceptionally low, our death rate as of July 5th is 16 per day, we're fine.

If you think a mask and hand sanitizer can't protect you from this, then it's vain folly to mandate them when it is far worse. You can't simultaneously be afraid of NY's current numbers and then tell me that it is a wise policy to adopt masks and hand sanitizer protocols with social distancing where cases are explosive and still safely be able to go to grocery stores, etc.

The scientific evidence suggests even simple face coverings are quite good at keeping people safe, especially when worn by the sick.
