I've had trouser seats trimmed and have never noticed the pocket feeling smaller.

Bunty, great pics, your parents are a very handsome couple!

Bunty - great pics as usual. Do you / does your brother know what shoes they are in the pic with the suit and Ford Anglia? Are they the long lost Solatio I wonder?

I thought that might be the case, maybe I should find a new tailor. I'm sure they could just restitch the bottom end of the pocket area to the same place it was before they trimmed out the fabric. Also, isn't $19 a bit steep for a hem and taper?

MoM, were dark brown sheepskins commonplace, or even acceptable in the original days? I've been planning on getting one for the next coming winter because they don't look as feminine as the tan/white ones. I recently found this one on ebay (sadly, not my size, but the ideal look)

Maybe the tailor meant that when you slim the seat, depending how much, the pockets start to get closer together.

Some around our way in the 60s wore dark sheepskins and they looked cool, the one in your pic do not look right the fcuk off collar is wrong for skinheads to big, and the rear vent is also wrong.

Hey Brideshead, I saw your posting on the Fred Perry and Skinhead thread and thought I bring the link to every1's attention. How accurate is the history it gives about skinheads? Some of it seems off so I would like to get a response from the Original skinheads in this thread to see if some of it is exaggerated and whatnot. http://www.fredperry.com/heritage/ (go to the 5decades of Fred Perry and click on the 60s timeline) GS, I guess your FP boycott is over?

Really interested in some jewelry, I think it's more of a Mod thing but perhaps you guys could give some input. I really dug the ID bracelet in Bundy's pics, what about necklaces? Any specific pendants Mods/Skinheads would wear on their chains?

You didn't sell out, you bought in!

How are their[FP] button down shirts? For some reason I choose to stay away from FP button down shirts and only wear their polo shirts while I also refuse to wear Ben Sherman polos and prefer their button down shirts.
Do you happen to have any experience with Joseph A Bank BD shirts?

If you're talking about blokes, I don't recall our wearing chains of any description. If you're talking about girls, the most I can remember is loopy earrings.

Thanks OHT.

Yes, I would say the FP piece is broadly accurate although the tone is a little critical perhaps?

As to the birth of the movement, as far as I can tell they report it pretty well. The music favoured by skins I would not rank as they have done - most had broader interests than it is popularly thought.

As far as the decline of the movement goes, yes the negative publicity (or indeed any publicity on that scale) would not have helped but there may also have been more complex reasons. Not least IMO is that when a new decade beckons we seem to want change. Look at the 1920s, the 30s and the 60s - each ushered in new styles, new economics, new politics, technologies, etc ,etc. Not on Day 1 of course but the marker had been laid down as it was here.

Another reason for me was that I favoured a softer look anyway (you only have to see me raving about the pic that Alex has just flagged up elsewhere in this thread) and welcomed the change - in a way. Some elements of the new style were not sufficiently traditional for my tastes but it did suit me overall - others I know felt the same.

Funny thing is the Dark Sheepskins were as popular as the long light coloured ones were, where we were.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
