Clown shoes? Is it time for a new pair?

Hello,

So I just got a new bespoke suit today from Johnathan Behr in LA (Awesome place by the way, highest recommended). I tried it on and put on the dress shoes I have. They're a pair of Rockports. But it seems like I'm wearing clown shoes! I wear a fairly large shoe size for my height (10.5-11 US shoe size, I'm 5'9" athletic build). Anyway, is it time to buy a new pair of shoes? In which case, any brands you would suggest in the $200-300 price range? Thank you and I apologize for the horrible pictures.

Ugly, ugly, ugly. Clunky soles, bulbous last. Yes, you need a new pair of shoes. Several, preferably. It's good to have variety, and if those are your best shoes while you're buying bespoke suits, time to step it up.

AE is in your price range. You seem to be in the habit of wearing fairly conservative shoes, so I would reccomend the park or 5th avenue in black.

Thank you thank you thank you. That's exactly what I needed to hear. I looked at a few AEs today and I loved them. I thought they were clunky so I guess I was right.

These shoes really do dress me down. Does a leather bottom of a shoe really matter? I've always been curious.

Buy new shoes immediately. Wearing those shoes with a bespoke suit would be a travesty.

You have 3,000+ for a suit, but only $200-300 for a pair of shoes? Like other mentioned AE's, if you wait around you can find C&J's on the b&s or ebay for $300 (or even less, someone just sold a pair bb's made by c&j brand new for $165 today).

Ad others have stated, you absolutely need better shoes. But "clown shoe" syndrome is also usually largely attributable to tapered leg trousers. Maybe you have a bit of both contributing factors here?

They look nice, break in, and form to your foot. And you can slide around while dancing, which makes you look cooler and makes it more fun. It also wipes clean more easily, so you don't ever track much around. And it can be replaced when the shoe wears out, though you can do that with any welted shoe, danite (rubber) or leather soled.

If you do elect to go with rubber, have a topy (thin rubber cover) put on a leather soled shoe or have a danite sole that emulates the look of a leather sole in thickness and profile put on. The thinner sole without the big giant lugs (which face it, you rarely need) looks much nicer and much dressier.

I have learnt. Well, I just came back from shopping and did not have a chance to read cptjeff's post about leather soled shoes. Darn. The sliding around on the dance floor reason was actually the only reason I had in mind prior to your post.

Anyway, I just bought a pair of these. They're being shipped to my place in 2 days. http://www.ferragamo.com/webapp/wcs/...3336549/440399 Thoughts? They're conservative and sleeker than my old pair. But what isn't?
