I've used TailorStore many times and just received my first shirt and pants from ModernTailor.

Anyone used more than one of these sites, and what is your experience?

Here's mine:

TailorStore:
I used shirt measures and threw away my first order. The shirt was too slim over the chest and the sleeves way too wide. I gave them one more chance and then one more, and a fourth one. The fourth try gave me three shirts that I actually ended up wearing.

The good: Very honest and useful fabric information. Fast delivery. Their cheap fabrics look ok, and their better fabrics are really good. Easy web site.

The bad: Many tries until I received an acceptable shirt. Proportions slightly bad, although they technically measure correctly against my order. The yoke is smaller than my better store-bought shirts. Sleeve width was unproportional: too wide around biceps and too narrow around lower arm. Chest and stomach matched measurement, but too much fabric was allocated to the back, and too little on the front. It is like they have a fixed width for the back, and adjust the front for slimmer fits.

Modern Tailor:

The good: Although I selected the cheapest fabric for pants, the fabric looks and feels very good. The shirt was very proportional on my first try. I wouldn't change much for the next one.

The bad: I gave pants measurements from favorite pants, but they ended up much higher in the waist compared to the ones I measured from. The shirt fabric was too transparent and sort of yellow, although I ordered a white fabric which looked bright white on the web site. Long delivery time, because of the pants order. It took 4 weeks from order to delivery.

Which one would I pick for the next time? Not sure. I'm leaning towards Tailor Store, unless you guys point me in another direction.

Feel free to let me know of other sites like these, and what you think of them.

I have had around 10 shirts made from Tailorstore, 4 from Moderntailor, and one suit attempt from Indochino. This has been my experience:

TailorStore
Good:
-Good slim fit when body measurements are provided

Bad:
-Cheap fabrics are very poor quality
-Can't choose non-fused collar/cuffs
-Fabric selection

Moderntailor
Good:
-Price
-Customization
-Fabric selection
-Ship time

Bad:
-Need to provide shirt measurements for a good slim fit

Indochino (Suit Order)
Good:
-Price

Bad:
-Can only provide body measurements
-Heavily padded shoulders
-Bad fit

To summarize, I would order shirts from Moderntailor and never order a suit from Indochino.

Will there be more fabric choices? It is pretty limited at the moment.
Also is it based on price or is it 2 of the same fabric?

Why do threads about certain online shirtmakers almost always attract a flock of low-post-count posters in rapid succession?

I'm not one for conspiracy theories, but come on.

I don't understand how you could've used shirt measurements yet got a shirt so far from what you wanted, are you sure you measured correctly?

I generally make a point of reading these threads for the reason that I'm relatively new to SF and have therefore learned quite a bit about the inadequacies of my wardrobe recently. It would seem that one of the better ways to remedy this situation is MTM shirts (such as through MT, etc) since I definitely don't have the income for bespoke.

I would assume that many other low-post-count members are going through a similar wardrobe enhancement and correction phase.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
