How many yards of seersucker do I need for a suit

The cloth seller is selling it at 44" by the yard. Also, do I need to double the cloth for seersucker? I heard something about that... but I don't know.

For most people, four yards of 60" goods would be more than enough. So get six yards and that should be plenty.

I don't know, some types of tweed need double the amount right? Something to do with the type of loom the cloth is made from? I just wanted to check that seersucker is not such a cloth... maybe it's a figment of my imagination, don't know where I might have heard it.

You need more cloth if the fabric is made on a narrow loom. Typical width is 60". Many tweeds are made on 36" or 30" looms. I've never heard of seersucker made on 44" but if that's what it is, 6 yards is plenty. If you are short, you could maybe get away with 5. Best thing is to ask your tailor what he needs.

Hmm. According to that chart you need 3 yards of 60" cloth for a shirt if you're 6' tall and have a 40" chest. That's... a lot. I'd think two would be enough.

I don't know too much about suiting cloth, but 44/45 is a pretty common width for shirtings. I'd be careful not to get something that's too light for a suit, even if it's seersucker. Where are you getting it from, if you don't mind my asking?

That's crazy. I am 6' 4" and I can get a shirt out of 2 yards, though my shirtmaker prefers 2.25 yards.
