Long time lurker still a noob...need some advice from the Allen Edmonds guys out there. I have been slowly very slowly building up my shoe collection over the past few months after reading this site (while on a budget - I'm only 24). So far I have the Hale in black and Bel Air in walnut need to buy one more so I can achieve the 3 shoe rotation.

I have the chance to purchase another pair NIB for $70 here are the models Dryden in brandy (also not sure which last this is on if anyone knows, tried searching couldnt find anything), Hale in Chili and Clifton in Chestnut (pictures shown in order left to right - Dryden,Hale,Clifton).

The shoes will be worn in a casual/work environment, I work in the finance field (investments) usually business casual with suits worn once every 3 weeks or so. Ideal I need/want something in a dark brown but unfortunately that isn't an option in the sale, I have the general impression this is a good deal and should not pass it up.

Thanks for the help appreciate it!!!

I think the styling of the Clifton is the most casual, and for your purposes, the most appropriate therefore. The color will probably not be the same as the picture and may be too close to your current ones in walnut. I'd suggest buying them in dark brown, or buying dark brown polish and slathering it on thick a few times.

The Dryden is on the 2 last. They don't even show that one on the website anymore. But is similar to the 108 last which is used for the Hinsdale and Delray.

I think the Dryden in for $70 is a no brainer. And that color should be different enough from your walnut you won't have any redundancy. The Clifton in Chestnut might real close to your Walnut. But the Chili Hale wouldn't be very close in color.

Good luck in your search.

FYI, I take a 10D in most AE lasts, but in the Dryden I take a 9.5D. YMMV.

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
