Your feet feel cool when not wearing socks? I think the exact opposite - the socks are there to wick up moisture. Feet in shoes without socks = sweat. Terribly uncomfortable, IMHO.

I think it would be neat to have diamonds cut in socks to make a skin and cotton argyle pattern. I'm okay with Glennie taking that one.
