By whom? I see this but it's an exemplar of some of the problems associated with prescriptive grammar. "That" has too many ellisions and meanings and sounds equally awkward in some sentences (see here). Normative grammar was pretty much dealt the death blow by Chomsky before both of us were born. In this case, though, I'll oblige. It does sound odd.

It's not a matter of preference of form. You might as well say Einstein sucks.

[/grammar nazi]

how about we use that plus which. As in, "Cars, that which make Al Gore wet". I've seen it in a few areas. And, what's with Al Gore being wet? Did he grow a vag since leaving office? Besides, your Canadian, what makes you all an expert on English?

It's really not an "instead" option. These are entirely different functions. You don't see subscribed threads here unless you specifically go through the effort to visit the subscribed threads section on your profile and click that. (Which I usually don't) Subscribing mainly allows you to be notified of an update when you're away from the board. Personal Sticky (aka "MySticky") allows you to monitor threads you find important then read and reply to them without browsing through every page of updated threads first. I would love to see it here, but I just googled it and see that it's only available for current versions of vBulletin.

What happened to the Chicago teen beating thread?

Just came across it in Google Reader...did it disintegrate that quickly?
