This is probably absolutely stupid, but how would Lysol affect jeans?

I've basically always washed my jeans--only slowed down recently now that I'm buying some decent ones. I got a pair probably less than a month ago though, and just wiping them makes them bleed, so I wanted to put off washing them.

But then I took the trash out. After it had rained and water got in the can. I'll save you the details but that I have a dog, and I'm a little worried about what I got on them.

I was going to wash them on a hand-wash cycle with a little soap, in-side out, and air-dry, but I'm not even sure that would kill what might be on them.

Would lysol discolour them? Alcohol? I know vinegar can be used to set the dye. Would that work as a disinfectant, or do I probably have nothing to worry about and a light wash like I mentioned would be fine to my end?

The Lysol that comes in spray cans is mostly ethyl alcohol. It won't hurt your jeans.

If you're really worried about dirt on your jeans, just wash them.

you might try just a gentle soak (after you vinegar them) with Woolite Dark and some melaleuca. My girlfriend swears by this **** to disinfect anything and everything...and it will smell better than Lysol on your jeans. :nodding:

Woolite Dark is great. It'll set you back $10 but you'll only need half a shot glass worth of it to do a load of darks. Turn your jeans inside out to minimize the wear and tear.

Update:

I've had them soaking in two cups of vinegar and some water for about 5.5 hours now, after spraying them with an all natural (or something resembling) disinfectant spray and allowing to dry. The water is rather blue. Is this normal? I figured with the dye setting, they wouldn't bleed a whole lot during the soak.

Edit: They look fine. Drying :)

Melaleuca is some kind of tea tree oil type of ****.... it's available in many places... just give it a search, but it is great for an all natural disinfectant that won't have the chemical or fragrance smell of Lysol.

threads like this give me anxiety. I just soak my jeans in lukewarm water with a little woolite. spin the jeans around for a min and then rinse with cold water. I do this after about 25 wears

There really isn't anything you can do to **** up your jeans and people are really exaggerating it. 6 months whatever is stupid. Washing before that 6 months is part of the "character" that you add to raw denim.

Only thing I would stay away from is washing your jeans in a lot of bleach unless you're after white jeans, but other than that, most things shouldn't hurt.
