Hi Academe,

Unless someday they do something amazing with a next generation Daytona, or I went vintage (which is now serious $$$), I think I'm set with the ones I have. Besides I have this 16528 which has developed a rosey patina so hopefully this covers your suggestion.

As for dress watches with black dials, of the ones you posted, I like the standard production 2 hand Jules Audemars the most. I like the officers case of the Patek a lot, but I find its dial a bit busy and I wish it did not have a date window and the silly outline around it. The other pieces don't really appeal to me. I like black dial watches particularly for sports watches, but sometimes I feel they seem to lack some depth on a dress watch. Even the ones that have guilloche rarely seem as elegant as silver dials with guilloche. I have one dark dialed watch with guilloche and its nice, but depending on the lighting some of the details get lost compared to silver dialed siblings. If you love the look of it then go for it. I think I would still need a classic silver dialed dress watch, in addition to a black dial dress watch but that'st just me.

Hello Dino's Daytona!

Oh snap! I'm wearing my Rolex in the mean subways of NYC! Is it safe?

Stuhrling is a Chinese brand with a contrived German identity. Emporio Armani watches are also Chinese, with a label that is increasingly tragic.

Not that everything Chinese is bad, and at least Stuhrling are incredibly cheap. But really, you get what you pay for. And in the case of Emporio Armani, rather less than you pay for.

Basically, they are both irredeemable ****. If you want a watch under $100, get a Seiko 5. If you want one under $500 or $1000, the world is full of relative wonders, and you will find them in this thread even among the princes' trinkets that predominate. Hamilton and Tissot are good value if you want something Swiss-made and mechanical.

Otherwise, hang around the subway and see i you're brave enough to fight Frilly for his Daytona (and that's pretty much the least you'll find on his wrist, but you'd better be fierce!).

Congrats on your RO 15300. Looks great! Enjoy it!

Its definitely worth saving for. I love mine.

Yeah its between a Royal Oak or a JLC Moon for my next watch.

My ideal 3 watch collection would be

1. A vintage Rolex (probably a Daytona)
2. Modern sporty/dressy watch (RO or Nautilus)
3. A simple and pure dress watch

I agree with all that, except I'd want 1. to be a Sub.

All these pictures of Daytona's make me miss mine. Good news is I received a call from the AD yesterday and the service is complete and watch is ready to pick up. Bad news is I won't be home for another 2 weeks.

Sure is.

But I'm guessing that's not OEM

Yeah, so rubber strap.

Interesting. May I ask which strap? I've been looking at the Rubber B option for Luminors and it's growing on me, but I need to source a black JV (among others) first before I could truly consider it.

I have my F serial on, rediscovering a newer-style Su French Ammo that's seen some good wear.

I love the color/patina it has developed, as it was pretty dull when new:

Sigh. I tried the 114060 yesterday and as much as I was repelled visually by the chunky lugs it actually looked and felt good on my wrist. Loved the damn bracelet and clasp. And the heft of the cerachrom bezel was awesome.

My problem now is I want to get the 114060. But I also know that I'll probably want the SD4000 when it comes out next month. HAHAHAH!
