Wow, a whole room, Dino? All I get is a bookcase in the study!
Hey Keith, trust me the room is far from palatial, but it does the trick. Mrs. Dino gets to choose most stuff related to the house. That stuff doesn't matter that much to me, and the garage and finished bonus room above the garage are mine to do with whatever I see fit, maybe short of adding a stripper pole to the room

.

speaking of old rolexes on leather straps, getting this guy ready for sale.

Wow looks great! I love that it has its papers and books... very cool!

Dino, a very, very special thanks to you for your advice in the process. The APs I had tried on in Houston had obviously been polished and I could never have appreciated the beauty of the bezel and the bracelet in new condition. Some day I probably will get an AP on a strap, but I'm so glad I went with a model on a bracelet for this first one.
Hey TC...always happy to help or be an enabler

. All kidding aside I'm glad you found my advice helpful. ROs on straps are fine, as maybe a second AP, but to me you have to have at least one RO on a bracelet to truly appreciate the brilliance of Genta's design. Take my word for it in the coming weeks, as you look at the watch you will come to notice little nuances of just how beautifully the watch is finished and you will develop an understanding of how much work goes into building and finishing a RO. Congrats again and I hope you will share some more photos with us when you get a chance.

Thanks gents for the kind words on my DJ

Re the interview(s) fortunately I wasn't in the hot seat. I played good cop in a panel of three, I think we have our man but we need to go through procedure so will be appointing in the new year.

Happy days

Oldie but Goldie.. My first serious watch, bought 13 years ago fresh out of grad school with the first salary.

Good old days when you could pick steel rolexes for 3k and change.. Nicer designs too, back then,

with better proportions..

Not getting much wrist time for some time, though I keep it serviced and fresh for the boys' 18th birthdays.

One gets the Rollie the other gets the jumbo.. Whoever shows more horological inclination gets the rest of the collection!

Thanks Cleav! I believe in organic growth in life and business, M&A is overrated.. I really hope the boys show interest in my hobbies when they grow up..

If there is a significance to the difference in terms, it is lost on me. But there are Rolex forums where the meaning of all manner of arcane markings is well known.

Just don't use words like "overstatement" (which is actually quite kindly put) when you ask about the "superlative" question. ;-)

Ah yes... No negative connotation was meant other than to mean overstatement in the sense that it sounds superior to plain old "chronometer" as COSC do not have a superlative grade (athough maybe they should? :p ).

My DJ was bought new in 1997 and I think it must be one of the last years for tritium as I think most brands phased in switchover to superluminova around that time. I must admit I'm rather fond of tritium although i suppose superluminova is superior although having said that the lume is poor on my submariner :(

Btw I forgot to say the facet hands on your old Daydate is wonderful :)

Thanks! Just a matter of personal taste, I've always had a strong preference for the white/silver dial on this watch. I must admit that the watch as a whole is a little blingier in person than I was expecting (which is exacerbated by the white dial), which is perfectly fine by me. :)

Also, both my other watches have black dials (Submariner and Panerai), so it's nice to have some variety.

Thanks - everything about that watch was pretty terrific, except for the too much text on the dial, which goes with the territory. For a watch as old a I am, it was in far better shape, and kept nearly perfect time once it had been serviced. Impressive.

I knew what you meant about the overstatement and quite agree - not watch is officially certified to be a "superlative chronometer". Overstatement is about the most charitable characterization one could accurately apply. I just wouldn't recommend pointing that out in a Rolex forum - those good folks can be quite touchy about that sort of thing (which is true to some degree of any brand with a large and loyal following).

A higher level of chronometer testing I something that has been discussed many times over the years among enthusiasts, but has never really gained traction in the industry. I'd like to see it, but I can understand why there would be resistance among the big three that collectively account for nearly all the chronometer testing (Rolex, Omega, Breitling).

So, unfortunately not mine, but where I am staying in New York just so happens to be a block away from the Audemars Piguet boutique. Well, I am glad I went in!! They were holding the piece for a customer who was coming in later on in the evening. I have to say... I am absolutely in love.
