Sometimes I go weeks/months without reaching for this but every time I wear it, I end up staring at it. Love the warm, domed acrylic crystal and the lume is surprisingly bright.

Haven’t seen the white dial version in person yet but it seems too stark to my eye. I think black dial works best in terms of legibility. Coming in a close second would be black dial, white subs for the right amount of contrast.

Looking at the closeup, it could use some poly-watch.

I was in the Milan boutique the other day and tried on the white dial.

I think for my general taste in watches, which is slightly toward "more bling" on the continuum between "Less bling" and more, there's a more than zero chance I sell my black 3861 Speedy in favor of the white dial.

Oh also stopped in at the Patek dealership (they made us wait an arbitrary 10 minutes before coming inside the otherwise empty shop), got to try on the Ellipse (the friend I was with is trying to acquire one for a client of his; no dice). Rotor was audibly loud from normal movements. SA insisted it was bc the movement is stopped internally since it's "for display only".

I found 4 was truly manageable. 6 became a challenge, and more than 8 and I would get lazy. Don't get me wrong, sometimes I enjoy wearing the same watch for several weeks or a few months, but several simply weren't getting any wrist time. Then some friends got into contributing to a "Story" on IG, "What's on your wrist," and ever since I started participating all my watches get a close to equal amount of wrist time.

I'm driving myself crazy I think. I think I hit my personal "peak watch" two years ago right after I got my Armin Strom and when I still had my Santos. It was five watches that essentially covered all my needs. At the moment I have 11 total, though I am in the process of selling two, with another three on order.

I think there will be a culling/consolidation by the end of the year to get back to 6/7.

Speaking of Vegas…I did hit up a number of shops last week and the only thing that actually piqued my interest enough to ask to try on was this:

I agree, 4 to 5 is basically peak - easiest to get wrist time for all watches, and have watches that cover all the bases. Anything more is just proof you're addicted to this hobby. I think my longest stretch without buying a watch was 4 years.

I have kind of mixed feelings about the Alpine Eagle. Great movements, and I love the bracelet, I'm still undecided about the "Ears" it has grown and the change to a totally round bezel, but my pet peeve is roman numerals on sports watches. I didn't like when they did that on the Nautilus for a few years in the late 90's, or on some Rolex Daytonas. Thankfully, on this version they got rid of them at 3, 6, and 9, just one more set needs to get nixed.

I was never a fan of the Ellipse when I was younger, but in the last 10 years I've really grown to like it's design.

I am nearly 100% certain, at this point, that I am keeping the 5712A. My current plan is to ditch the 5205G and the 5212A, and put the money from the sale into the 3940. We will see whether that is a first series or a really nice second series. I am also considering - but this is less likely - culling the below-referenced redundancies. I have been on a bit of a purging spree across my clothing as well.

In short, this will soon be state of collection:

Keepers:
Berneron Mirage (YG) - modern shaped dress watch.
Patek 3940 (YG) - consummate complicated Patek dress watch.
Patek 5712 (SS) - modern dressy sports watch.
Movado Celestograf (YG) - vintage complicated watch on bracelet.
Rolex Explorer (SS) - son's birth watch.
Tudor Pelagos 39 (TI) - daily beat around watch.

Redundancies:
Bulgari OF Silver (SS) - duplicative of 5712. Still like the watch, but its primary use case (really slim watch that I wear to work) is rendered moot.
JLC MUT Moon (SS) - hard to view the JLC MUT Moon in the same collection as a Patek 3940. My only reservation is that it was my graduation present (albeit, it was from myself to myself).
Omega Speedmaster (SS) - I reach for the Tudor Pelagos 39 way more than I reach for my Omega Speedmaster. But it is objectively a lovely watch.
