Total noob here. Howerver, my first pair of Alden's. Any thoughts on protecting the leather bottom's if/when rain occurs?
    Thanks.

Either topys, or overshoes if you plan to wear them in the rain.

Once I get the soles scuffed really well I apply a coat of leather honey once a year sometimes twice....I have no idea if it works but I like it.

Thanks gforce. Yes I was referring to the size of the actual cap. How do you like them. Did you notice the larger cap? Do you like it like that or does it bother you? It seems like its 2/3 of the way to the lacing when I'm used to 1/2 way. Let me know your thoughts.
    Thanks!

In this Crockett and Jones video at 2:05 it looks like he puts shoe cream on the soles. Does anyone do this?

I Do. The soles are made of leather too, so why not?

Wearing a leather sole shoes in the rain does shorten the life of the sole than normal wear. However, leather sole is actually quite tough, and providing that you are not wearing them in the rain that often, I won't worry about it too much.

Just make sure you put the shoes on the side after you worn them in the rain, so that the leather sole can dry completely before you're putting them back then you'll be fine.

    BTW, congratulations on your wedding!

I recommend both of these as well. I frequently use overshoes when in inclement weather and want to wear something other than my Color 8 Indy Boots.

No. The uppers were in excellent condition so there was no need.
