Excellent loafers uncle. Wanted to visit PS to see if the manager there could help ID my loafers but could not make it down. I might actually see if Nick V. can ask since I think he is acquainted with the PS manager.
Trying to decide on a #8 boot... NST, wingtip, or cap toe (TB last is too casual so it is out of the running). Leaning on the NST boot...

nephew,
thank you
you could not go wrong with any of the three syles. i would go with cap toe

Sorry for a bit of a necro-post...
But I can imagine trying to sell this to my wife, who already just rolls her eyes when the boxes arrive...
"Hey honey, wanna go for a weekend jaunt to Middleborough. Mass?"
"Um, yea sure". flips through yellow pages for a divorce attorney
No interest in a NY get together? I could see if Mike and the Ep gang would be down. I have two weeks before work starts again though, so I'm a little nuts at the mo, but I'd love to try.

nephew,
you are a good guy

I was just in San Francisco and stopped by the Alden SF store. Two things. First of all, I guess, I'm wearing the the wrong size 986 LHS. Thanks, Robert for the new Color 8 10D's. I always felt that the upper portion was a little tight over the top of my foot. I guess I'll be eBaying my 9.5D Brooks Brothers unlined Color 8's in the near future. I'm never going to get the hang of that Van last!

But my real question is this. I've got a pair of the Kudu Ultimate Indy's from Leather Soul (Thanks, guys. Awesome boot!) and while mine are softer and more broken in, they definitely have a bit of that dust magnet quality to them. But the pair of Kuku boots that I saw in the Alden store had more of a waxy feel to them.

I've still never managed to find a good way to maintain the Kudu's. I once tried Montana Pitch Blend, but then leather is so oily,. that the Pitch Blend just built up on the surface, and I eventually had to wipe every bit of it off (which took awhile).

Does anyone have any advice on how to maintain this kind of leather. It's be really great to get to lose a little of that dust catching ability!

Thanks in advance for any advice!

I'm sorry. Why do you guys call each other nephew and uncle? It seems rather strange.

It's because we're all related...this is a message board for the Alden family. We just all happen to like shoes. Common mistake...don't beat yourself up over it.

A color 8 shortwing from Alden of Carmel has intrigued me quite a bit. But I've been hesitant to pull the trigger because of the commando soles. Anyone have any comments on the commando sole on wingtips or ptb's for business casual to slightly more dressy settings? I think some of you have said the commandos are barely noticeable... Enough to maybe wear with a jacket and tie?? Thanks!

I don't doubt that its barely noticeable, but the whole idea of that shoe with that sole is beyond me.  Like putting mud tires on a Rolls-Royce.  Just my opinion, others may vehemently disagree.

The commando sole is not terribly noticeable. :nodding: Having said that, I agree with the spirit of your post. :slayer: A commando sole necessarily dresses a shoe down. It just does. Personally, many of AoC's styles, for me, are off limits to the extent they come with commando soles. But some really like the commando soles - I get that.
