While I like lots of cars, my passion is for a subset of cars: beautiful cars based on the chassis of ordinary cars; the automotive equivalent of the tv cliche were a quite ordinary woman dresses up or lets her hair down and is suddenly gorgeous. Examples:

VW Kharmann-Ghia, based on the VW Beetle:

Alfa Romeo Sprint Speciale, based on the Giulietta sedan

Ford Mustang, based on the Ford Falcon:

My current ride, the BMW Z4 M Coupe - based on the E46 3-series:

Dang, GM was late to the PoMo party, though!

Ford was already way hip in the '30's. And, they had the balls to actually name the car...WOODY.

Doesn't Cali still run a fleet of BMW M5's or something like that for high-speed chases? I know they had like 40 540i/6's and then switched to E39 M5's, about 10 years ago, but I don't know what happened after the economy fell apart...

I think BMW gave the Spartanburg police department an M5 when they opened their plant there. Here in Cali, we have Camaro-driving police (the previous generation), ostensibly for chasing down big rigs. ORLY?

Also lots of police motorbikes are Beemers.

Cars I'm on about today. Changes constantly. Some attainable, some not.

The one in the wreck is an older Gallardo than the one on the track. Does Lamborghini just send a replacement when the cops wreck it?

I'd imagine that PD's have insurance like anyone else, and that when they crash, they get a payout that allows them to pick up a new Gallardo and have it resprayed in "Polizia" livery.
