EG's worst fabric to date, even worse than the FW22 phallic lighthouse print. It doesn’t have the playful absurdity of SS16’s dolphin fabric, nor the off-kilter creative touch of FW17's hummingbird upholstery. It lacks the deep-rooted subcultural nods of EG’s florals and leopard prints. It’s not ametora, it’s not timeless. It’s just the same gecko over and over on sandy-coloured poop. I wouldn’t buy this at a gift shop. My toddler wouldn’t touch it. 00019-engineered-garments-spring-2025-menswear-credit-brand.jpg

Feels like an autopilot season. Not much new in terms of silhouettes. Would love to hear what people who bought the collection thought of the fabrics. First thought when I scrolled through was that Mark Mcnairy found his way in as Creative Director

Do love the long upland vest though

Y'all are tough!

I thought the past 2-3 seasons of EG have been awesome, and I agree that looking at this season it's flat. There were a ton of great things in '24, with a lot of new patterns in FW24, so I do wonder how that affected the team's workload and creative energy for SP25. Also, let's not ignore the amount of collaborative projects lately.

The idealist designer in me wishes that EG took a break for SP25 somehow after crushing '24.

Still excited to stop into Nepenthes and see if there's anything for me :)

Yeah, I think some folk are being a bit harsh here.

As a big fan of how wild some of the more recent Spring/Summer collections, I like how stripped back it feels. The interplay between those browns, khakis and natural fabrics works really well and the animal print falls the right side of twee for me and is easily the best of the printed fabrics they’ve been playing with recently.

I feel like EG has been on such a roll the last five or six years and that the current winter collection is up there with the best they’ve ever done. All the new styles were exactly what the brand needed to keep things fresh and it’s so disappointing to see how conservative the majority of shops have been with the collection.

Can’t have a 100% hit rate the whole time, that’s asking a lot of anyone. And yeah, that print sucks, but it’s not like it’s the only pattern in the collection.
