i REALLY want these but I can only seem to find them in Japan. Does anyone else know any online/offline retailers aside from rakuten?

Theses are the 9015 Beckman Moc.

How do you think this Timberland stacks up against the redwing? I use to be a fan of this Timberland, but for some reason it dropped off the radar in N. America (it's not listed on the Tim site and hasn't been for some time now, though I know at one time it was a pretty popular chukka) and seems only available elsewhere. Personally, I like the tim, but there are features of both that I prefer (I like the RW's collar, color, and sole color - I like that the tim's overall shape is not as bulky).

I'd get the Timberlands, or some other boot. My redwings wore out two months after buying them - I wrote to Redwing and they called it "normal wear and tear". Very dissatisfied, as their boots are pricy.

What type did you get? Wearing them out in a couple months is HIGHLY suspect, unless you bought the cheap "lifestyle" line or something.

Redwing boots have been a favourite choice of workmen for years. They come in a variety of styles, including motorcycle boots, and cowboy boots. They're tough and durable and, with proper care, should last you a lifetime.

Before you buy your Redwing boots, you should decide what you'll be wearing them for. Will you be wearing them to work? If so, you should be certain that you choose a pair that can stand up to the challenge. Redwing boots are proven to be waterproof and insulated, to keep your feet warm and dry, when you are working outdoors.

I like those Timberland chukkas alot, and have been trying to find them for a good price, but quality wise, they dont stand up to RW. The leather is definitly so-so, and they are made in china. Also, the boot itself, or chukka, is different, lighter and more flexible. Looks good though...

Is yours the white crepe sole? Alot of people have complained about that type of sole not lasting long enough - several months of normal use.

Those redwings are almost perfect.

I don't think you can get anything better for the money.

That's what I'm having a hard time trying to guage: the quality of the leather. I can't tell from the pic and since they seem only available in Europe, I have no way of handling them. On the other hand, if the leather is anything like the classic 3 eyelet chukka shoe (which I've owned), then it should be great leather and built like a tank.

Pricewise, $160 USD shipped is not bad at all compared to the $319 cultizm (without shipping) has the RW (pictured above) listed at and they go just as well with jeans. I'll make a decision closer to Fall....
