In the arty-farty range

Have you seen Uta Barth's work? She just got a MacArthur Genius grant, and her work is this kind of abstract impressionism.

I'd never seen Barth's work, no. I was meta-amused by my own idea that I accomplished something interesting by taking an unsharp picture of a palm plant without even moving off my terrace chair while taking the photo. This laziness begets 'art' idea can be easily falsified by people who make a little more effort and thus better pictures. Or by people with more convoluted stories behind their work as Barth has, I'm sure. Probably, I am in part influenced in 'my work' by the bokeh rage and all that I've read about it. Something I can't achieve often with my Ricoh GRD4 but like to have more of.

This want even made me buy a Yashica Lynx 14e IC, but of course shooting film has its own drawbacks.

On the other hand, I'm more drawn by colour than by shape in photography and other art, I think. One of the reason I liked my fly pic a few pages back. I do like the colours of Barth's work (and of my own palm pic).

nice shots....

Imagine if you were going from the top and reach a restaurant at the bottom to eat dinner... and realize you forgot your wallet....

I just scanned my first black and white negative (Ilford XP2 Super) with a Canoscan 8600f. A rather random pic of a windmill (there's of course always one one the horizon here).

Anyone's got any tips for me in regards to scanning? Is it better to sharpen, up the contrast, darken or lighten while scanning or in Lightroom? Matt perhaps?
