Offical TRICKERS shoes and boots thread

Weird stuff but last night I dreamt I was trying on a pair of derbys in the W2298 last. Beautiful leather and what not but thank **** they were tight so I didn't buy more shoes even in my fantasies.

Haha, I got my first pair on 2298 recently (see photo's a few posts above). My pinky toe on the larger foot rubbed a little bit, but this appears to be over after 3-4 days of wear and wasn't uncomfortable.

I'd call them narrower than the 4497, but not tight by any means. I have a somewhat wide but low volume foot, so ideally the instep would be a bit lower, but the toe area ever so slightly wider. Instead I'll just tighten the laces a bit more (faces are nowhere near touching).

Thinking about a 2nd pair on the 2298 last due to really liking the reversed suede.

Miinto's got some nice sales going on various odd-Bourton models. They have leather from the Haas-tannery on what appears Vi-Lite soles in either green or navy, and some gumlite reversed suede in either brown or earth (olive).

I'm tempted, but not sure if these Bourton's would scratch my itch for a casual shoe that I can wear to the office. I find their broguing a bit loud.

I have to say, when I first started buying / collecting I loved brogues and went a bit overboard. I now have a clear preference for plain toe footwear. With that said, my brother just bought a pair of Sign Kudu Stows of me and I swear to God I am having second thoughts as I watch the leather evolve even as he has used it the last few days.


The Bourtons do look nice if you are into a looser fit clothing / chunky perspective. Not too sure how your work environment would allow for it. The Vibram wedge particularly makes stuff look large.

My shoe collection consists of 6 shoes and 3 boots at the moment, 4 of which (2 and 2) are brogues.

Our work environment is pretty casual (IT consultancy), but I never bring my Tricker's Stow. Neither do I wear my Oxford toe-caps to the office often, as they are a bit overdressed.

There are differences between brogues. My Pembroke's and Loake Buckingham's are worn quite often to work, but are much sleeker than a pair of Bourton's. If I'd wear the Bourton's only casually, I might as well put on my Stow's.

I hope it comforts you in saying they fit like a dream and I paid more for the matching belt that was in a worse condition. I'll probably keep these for the rest of my life.

Indeed. I was doing errands around the house yesterday when I came to the realisation that if I really went for it I could reduce my collection down to 3. Two pairs of White's ( I have become a devotee because of how the arch support has eliminated all knee and foot pain after all the walking I do ), and a pair of Conistons for more dressy occasions. With that, I would feel completely free.

Ive come across a pair of brogue Oxford second hand and I am having doubts as to whether these are genuine.
Reason I'm hesitant is the stitching appears not to be 360°, the broguing is different from typical more recent trickers, the sizing is typed vs handwritten, the trickers half insole is barely glued on etc. What do you guys think, are they just really vintage and used to be made this way? Thanks a lot!

I’m no expert in the city range but they look really old and probably genuine. The new ones are usually pretty cheap as aren’t hugely popular.

Hi, can you help me to decide what color should I buy? Most of the time I will wear them with light and dark indigo jeans, sometimes black. For that purpose I am considering some kind of brown leather.

I browse all boots with required soles and I sorted them according to how I like them in the marketing photos:

1. Grassmere / Stow Country Boot - Gaucho Kudu
2. Stow Country Boot - Lightweight - Olivvia Classic Espresso Burnished
3. Grassmere / Stow Country Boot - Caramel Kudu
4. Gregory Derby Boot - Coffee Burnished
5. Grassmere / Stow Country Boot - Snuff Kudu

Which leather is the most beautiful in reality? Can you share some photos if you have any please? I search photos in thread but I didn't find real photos of all, for instance I would like to see at least Gaucho and Olivvia Classic Espresso Burnished leathers on real pictures.

My second question is if there is any difference between Grassmere and Stow and Gregory except look?

I’ve not heard of Trickers being counterfeited.

It can be dangerous to go cold turkey after a longstanding addiction. My approach has been to sell multiple pairs that don’t get enough wear and purchase better pairs that I know I’ll use. I’ve been doing this at a sell/buy ratio of about 5/1. I’m around 8 sales away from reaching my goal of around 12 pairs. There are some that I just can’t part with, due to an emotional connection, but also as some of my much loved boots are brands like Grenson that just don’t command a good resale price. I find selling Trickers and C&J achieves a fairer price.
