Ben Silver, that menswear emporium located in Charleston, SC, has come out with
a catalog totally devoted to their eyewear one can buy online. The catalogs
I've seen always had an eyewear section - very unusual for a menswear catalog of
this type - but this is, I believe, their first one of this kind. Here's an
article on it

Called "Eyewear Classics," the intro. states Bob Prenner, a Ben Silver executive
was responsible for starting the company's first eyewear collection, as he could
no longer obtain his "demi-blond tortoise shell" frame from Lafont so the
company started making them. They later got Lafont to once again produce the
line, calling it the "Pantheon," which is available only through Ben Silver.
Actually, I'm a little confused when they refer to the frame on the catalog's
cover as their "original demi-blond tortoise," as it looks very much like
Lafont's "Pinkie" frame, shown on p. 4 (is this a historical frame from their
collection?), but anyway....
There are Ben Silver frames shown along with Lafont (Reedition line featured),
Anglo American, and Francois Pinton frames are featured. It's said almost all
frames shown are unisex (some are specifically mentioned as ladies', and there
sunwear as well. Most frames shown are plastics but there are vintage metal
types also.
Personally, some of these frames, even shown on ladies' faces, are a bit
masculine for my taste, but they are definitely a "preppy" sort of look for men
or women. Some get into the high prices, such as over $500. I note they only
give European countries for makers of these frames - no Japan.
You can request the catalog by calling 1-800-221-4671 or through
