Meermin Mallorca Shoes

Just took delivery of LM black wholecuts in New Ray after 7-8 weeks' wait and a black belt.

Personally don't mind the wait, but I will be sending both products back. Wholecuts fit reasonably well - sized up from normal UK8.5 to UK9 as per Meermin's advice. Lacing still bit too open. Also no QC issues, very nicely finished throughout, sole especially. BUT, New Ray, at least in that wholecut model is a pretty ugly last I have to say. I like continentally styled shoes, especially a chisel toe (which I know New Ray doesn't claim to be), but that shoe/last is just ugly. Too pointy, and the vamp is appears very high, perhaps exaggerated by the three pairs of eyelets which are too far apart.

Belt was too short (brought a 32inch for my 31 inch waist), but more importantly too wide (at least 1.5 inch) and the buckle doesn't look very refined.

All in all, good quality, great value, but lacking in refined style, IMO. Now waiting for the Ilcea MTO to see how Olfe (in normal size) compares to New Ray. I will probably still order from Meermin, but just be cautious when ordering New Ray. Come on Meermin, time for a true chiseled last!

It's New Rey* (Rey translates to king in spanish). Besides that, having looked at previous pictures of the last, I couldn't agree with you more. The toebox should be wider. The slope is too steep from the 'little toe' to the edge of the toebox. I'm looking forward to see the below mentioned styles in Olfe in brown calf become part of their RTW (probably never will though). I can't see any last that resembles an elegant chiseled toe in their selection. Ben and Ama have potential but I haven't seen any pictures of them. I also suspect that they're too wide.

A soft squared toe is something between a round toe and a chiseled toe. It might work. Be sure to add pictures when you receive them. Preferably from a birds-eye perspective so that one get a good notion of how the last looks.

Meermin does not have a chisel toe last.

Alright boss. Any last or style from their current RTWselection that you find attractive?

Keep in mind also that there are different laws. In the UK, for instance, it's a statutory right to return goods for any reason as long as they are unused and undamaged. Of course, some vendors try to obstruct this with their own "policies" or offering vouchers instead of refunds, or trying to insist that once a package is opened it can't be returned. But all will have the disclaimer "your statutory rights are unaffected" underneath their "policy" statement. Meaning it's worth arguing for you consumer rights.

Living in the UK I know all about the "it'll have to be a credit note" trick!
Even stores that traditionally had a no questions asked return policy are moving away from this now and unfortunately, very few people know their statutory rights

I'm looking for consensus on the following options: Kent Wang bench-grade shoes versus Meermin in general. I like that Meermin offers a MTM at a reasonable cost. My concern is whether the quality of Meermin (though very high rivals Kent Wang's bench grade shoes).
