I drilled a 1/8th inch hole through the top of my desk

A few days ago I mistakenly confused my newly unshaven moustage with carpentry knowledge and decided to install drawer railings myself. Drilling a hole in the bottom of my desk, I accidently drilled through, leaving a nice mark on a glossy white surface. It was almost a Homer Simpson moment.

The desk was nothing expansive but nonetheless one perfect for my needs so I want to keep it. How would I go around fixing it? Is there some sort of putty I can fill it with? And I'm guessing I have to repaint (which I wanted to do anyway) what is the best way to go?

It's white right now, can I just cover it with a second layer of white? How can I paint it so it the paint looks perfectly even?

Hmmm. short version: get a desk pad or flat month-at-a-view calendar to cover the hole.

Long version: you'll need to know how your desk is finished. If it's a deep glossy finish, then you've probably got a lacquer over paint finish, which is a bit of work to match. A professional furntiure repair man can probably get it right, but then you're looking at $$$ to fix.

Quick-and-dirty. Fill the hole with wood putty, flatten as best you can. After the putty dries, sand it down flush with the desk. Paint with white (match the color as best you can) gloss, and hope for the best.
