Hiking vest under a blazer/sport coat?

This year, I've been noticing more and more men wearing a thin, hiking type of vest under their blazers/sports coats. It's not made of fleece, and it's not bulky. It is a thin, gortex kind of vest. The vest seems to: a) add a look and feel of a "popped" collar on a suit coat and b) add some extra warmth for those who wear only their blazer in the cold weather.

I was watching Spiderman 3 last week and even noticed that James Franco was wearing one with his blazer in the scene where he and Toby are sitting in a cafe talking.

Anyway, I like the look and was wondering if anyone knew where I could get a similar vest since I have to wear blazers often at my job.

Thanks

I saw this featured in GQ once (i think) and I believe the vests they referenced were either from J.Crew or Lands End.

They were quite cheap as well.

I was in Rome in November and it seemed like every other Italian man aged 28-40 was wearing a down vest over their suit jacket or sport coat. It wasn't as terrible as it could be, but I'm not a huge fan. Also, wouldn't you need to get a vest in a size larger than your standard?

Fray makes a jacket with a built in padded liner. (There was one on ebay a while back). There's no way you'll be happy with a down vest underneath any jacket that fits you, so you'll need to find something like this.

Why not have a jacket or two in your wardrobe made from a fabric of sufficient weight that it renders makeshift expedients like this unnecessary?
