EMBA vs MBA - what's the difference?

EMBA is not really meant for career changers. At most schools, I believe, they aren't even allowed to participate in the MBA campus recruiting.

The two-year MBA program also gives you an opportunity to do an internship in between. In most EMBA programs I am familiar with, the students are working full time still and plan on returning to their employers (who probably are footing the bill).

Also, I believe one of the best reasons to get an MBA is for the network, and a full-time program is better for this.

Most people I know who have an EMBA were all in great careers and needed an MBA checked on the checklist to advance to director/VP position. Those are usually the people those programs are geared towards -executives with great experience who needed to take classes while still putting in executive-level hours.

I have a good friend that is a very good physician, very successful businessman (sole owner/CEO of a huge practice and several subsidiaries) and has had the same COO for several years, he being a graduate of a good b-school with an MBA specializing in health care. My friend took the local EMBA which lasted 15 months and was very targeted on upper level things vs. nuts and bolts, i.e. heavy on planning, strategy and organizational, no accounting, fixed securities, FX classes in the curriculum.
