I stumbled upon this Ebay listing today -- thought you might find it interesting.

BESPOKE 1938 HAMMONS SAVILE ROW MORNING COAT 36 R
RARE 1938 Vintage English Coat. Working Sleeve Button

http://cgi.ebay.com/BESPOKE-1938-HAM...item35b3012ecf

This was tailored a year before WW2 began.

From the listing:

"...Bespoke Vintage Hammons & Co. Morning Coat

Size: EU46; approx. US 36 R

Color: Black with satin trim

Style: 6 button; peak lapels, center vent.

Material: Not listed - feels like pure wool (slightly dense Savile Row type wool).

Here is a nice vintage (made in 1938) Hammons & Co. monring coat with a classic English cut. I couldn't find any information on this tailoring shop - not too surprising since it was made in 1938. Still the workmanship rivals any current Savile Row tailor. This morning coat is in excellent vintage condition - although made in 1938 there is no real wear, holes, rips, flaws etc. to the fabric and looks like it could have been made a couple of years ago. The lining is perfect. The workmanship and attention to detail on this coat is second to none.

It is made of a medium weight to fall wool and best used as a 3 season coat. Color is jet black - really attractive and very versatile. A formal attire staple.

Labeled English size 46 R and I measure at an approx. US 36 R, but to ensure a proper fit please compare a coat that fits you well to the following additional details:

Fully lined. Single-needle stitching. 6 Button front. 4 button sleeves; 3 functional. Peak lapels. Center vent. Functional button hole with buttoniare loop. One exterior pocket. 1 interior pocket..."

That's an evening tailcoat, not a morning coat.

If both you and the vendor looked more closely you would see that it is an evening coat NOT morning dress. Silk facings for information.

I'd put it on without any other clothing and wear it around the house; maybe I'd take tea & scones in the garden with my junk just hanging about.
