Color of lining for navy suit

I am pondering over the color for the lining of a new bespoke navy suit. My tailor is of the opinion that there should be a contrast between the color of the lining and the suit fabric. He suggests a rather light blue color for the lining. The suit is made for business occasions and I do not wish the color of the lining to be flashy, but wish to stay on the conservative side. What color of the lining would you suggest?

A light blue lining isn't too flashy.

If the lining flashy it still really won't be seen IMO. I have navy suits with pink/deep red pailsey/light blue/etc. Go with light blue if it's an issue.

I have a navy suit with a lining that's a light blue stripe on a white background. It's my favourite - looks like a striped oxford shirt.

Light blue is fine but more fitting IMO for a summer weight suit.

Why not a very deep purple or eggplant? Otherwise go for a deep maroon or port color. Just don't do navy.

I'd go with bright red. Or Eggplant. Or Yellow. The worst contrast you can think of.

"Business on the outside, party on the inside"

I agree you may choose a color so it does not look like a RTW suit. However, the "business on the outside, party on the inside" is exactly what I wish to avoid. When I do business, I do business. When I party, I am party both on the inside and the outside.

Eggplant sounds pretty good though.
What about dark grey, or even brown?

I think a dark eggplant would be nice. If you ever had your jacket open in a business setting I don't think anyone would notice, and it's a little different so you can feel like your wearing bespoke.

As the owner of a high-end dry cleaner and shirt laundry, I see many bespoke suit jackets and sport coats. The designs and colors on linings range from the "ultra conservative" to the "that's unbelievable". As no one really sees the lining on a bespoke jacket or sport coat (unless you take it off), the lining provides you with a great sartorial opportunity to express your individuality. So why not take a chance? One of my clients (chairman of a public company) has an Attolini navy pin stripe suit with a bold red/yellow/green paisley lining. Now that's what I call expressing one's personality! Website: www.ravefabricare.com Daily blog: www.truequalitycleaning.com

Do you plan of wearing the jacket inside out at times? Lining does NOT make a jacket/suit "business!" The wearer does!
