Brooks Brothers: Trendy for Young Professionals

For the majority of "young professionals" I think BB suits are the best option. However, I prefer a suit that is more modern cut and fitted to accentuate the effort I put into staying fit, which IMO BB falls short of. For shirts and ties I love BB and think its hard to beat.

Have you tried the BB Fitzgerald GF line? Very slim. I actually think that the Regent (after a good tailoring at my tailor) fit better and was not as trendy.

Dear lord... and they're charging ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS for a silkscreened hoodie?

That's a dangerous game to play, for marketing reasons. When you see a $15 hoodie marked up to $100 because the silkscreen says 'Brooks Brothers', you tend to start questioning the price of their actual nice stuff - you start wondering if everything else is inflated by 85%, too.

Personally, I've always thought everything by BB that wasn't a traditional suit is... extremely dorky.

Their storefront mannequins are dressed up as variations of this. A boss of mine (owner of the company actually) pretty much buys everything from BB, and he always looks... dorky. Rich, but dorky. Like Richie Rich!

It doesn't look like what grown men wear. It looks like what you'd dress your kid up in for prep school... or Hogwarts University.

That's my opinion, anyway.

Why is anyone playing along with this thread? If BB want to advertise, they should pay for it. If they want customer feedback, they should pay for a focus group.

Whichever, they shouldn't clog up SF with this crap ... and if we play along, then others will start doing it too.

How can it be spam? I can't see how the OP is going to gain financially from this, and anyway BB is a supporting affiliate of SF in case you didn't notice. i.e. BB pays money to SF, when anyone buys things through the affiliate link at the top of the page. 'Support our sponsors' as they say.

Maybe you stop reading the many threads where a clothing manufacturer or retailer is the subject. TBH these are the threads I like to read on SF.

I don't get Brooks Brothers. I like the regent fit but the selection in the stores is universally terrible. I was in the store on Connecticut Ave last week and all they had in a 40R was black with bar stripes (!) MTM therefore becomes the only way to go but is a complete rip off - I was quoted $1800 for a two piece 1818. God only knows how much they want for GF MTM. For that price one should be able to find cheap bespoke or choose from lots of other MTM labels that are better quality than a half canvas machine made 1818 ordered by someone with unproven measuring skills.

Same thing goes for their shirts. I dont get it.

I had seen that picture in the spring catelogue and I told my girlfriend that I wish I could pull that off.

I am a physician in my early 30s. I think that BB represents a good value for shirts (extra-slim), ties (slim) and polos (slim) compared to the competitors. I have not seen anything that matches their quality in those items in any stand alone store or upscale department stores outside of NYC or maybe LA. I haven't bought any suits there.

I'm a 20 year old college student work internships the past few summers. I would say there isn't that much BB around and the only thing I'd wear is their polos. Nice to wear a somewhat different logo. But I'd still take a bunch of companies for polos over BB.

As for suits, these days if you pick up nice suits (RLBL for example) on sale you can get them for around the same price as BB.

EDIT: As for marketing to younger people I know they offer try to sell customized products to my fraternity as well as offering a discount.

To me, it looks like those 'cutesy' ensembles mother dress their children up in when they get their portraits taken. It also looks like something that would get you a free beating if worn in high school. It's really 90% the vest, though.
