Took a pic of my boots yesterday when we had some sun...not that common in November.

From top left:

G&G Glencoe, tan hatch grain, double dainite with stormwelt.
Carmina cordovan jumper boot, double dainite
EG Galway, DOAK, double dainite
EG Galway, edwardian antique,single leather sole
G&G Canterbury, vintage rioja, single leather sole
G&G Arran, dark brown english grain, double dainite

RogerP, have you noticed what I've noticed on my Vass pairs? They seem to use different hide cuts for shafts, so their boots crease prominently above ankles.

I can't say that I have noticed, but that may be down to the fact that I have just the one pair of Vass tall boots which incorporate different materials (shell / calf) for upper and shaft.

I will say generally that I have seen so many terrific Vass boot makeups over the last few weeks on the forum that I am not lacking for inspiration for future projects.

I'm sure it may be more prominent on some brands than others, but probably varies more with the leather and who is doing the cutting that day. The one bal boot I had from Vass actually used the softest leather all over (better than some EG pairs I have). I know that is not always the case.

yup. That's pretty much my routine on new acquisitions: renovateur, small amount of cream polish and then mirror the toe box. Usually try to break it in indoors before i go out with it. Might not need to with these; surprisingly comfy.

I actually wore my Islays today.

Although I conditioned and shined I used Bick4 instead of renovator. I think a decent high shine on scotch or pebble leather still looks pretty good and hardly out of place by any means.

i have a pair of meermins with grain and that was did the high shine with that. did'nt seem to look out of place so i just did it to the cj.

I just do my best not to use to much polish. I had a lot of practice in the military and I no longer need to put so many coats on to get a good shine. Besides practice I think Saphir and the quality of leather I am shining now is much better than what I had in the military.

surprisingly, this pair was one of the fastest pair in my small rota to take the shine.

I am inclined to lean towards that train of thought; but I'm not sure if that is the correct correlation (ie better leather equating to shorter time to take the shine)

I spent some time cleaning & polishing today on a rainy saturday. This is the first time I put any sort of shine on these boots. They were my go to winter boots last year. With record-breaking snow and accompanying slush, I actually treated these with Obenauf HDLP mid winter. May seem drastic but it kept the salty slush from penetrating the leather and getting my sock wet. It also made for much easier clean up. The salt would sit atop the layer of wax and wiped off quickly.

Wow, I'm actually surprised that you were able to get such a nice shine especially since you've used HDLP on them.
