Best ties for investment banking analysts

I would personally avoid wearing Hermes and such so as not to look like a tool/douche analyst.

Are there brands that are fashionable / yet suitable for an analyst? (as in, not so flashy and not of high-end brands, but still fashionable and respected by SF'ers)

Shoot away!

go with a bow-tie, it will sure make you look like a super star. Investment banking is all about looking the part, as you probably already know the work can be done by monkeys.

I used to be an analyst at a bulge bracket and now work in PE. I can say from experience that it doesn't really matter. Just get things that look normal and not too out of place. It's all about conformity.

You can wear Hermes if you want, but some senior guys might give you crap for it. I happen to like nice clothes and shoes. I wore Hermes ties, occasionally got crap for it...did it impact my ranking? Nope, still got solid review and top tier.

If I were you, I'd be spending more time worrying about models...and I mean EXCEL models (or since it sounds like you're just starting, comps and pitchbooks) before what ties to consider.

Even in IB 15yrs ago, the entire deal team from MDs down to analysts amusingly wore Hermes ties: the variation was really in the quality of suits/shirts/cufflinks/watches/shoes

Ironically, hedgies who earn more in a year than any GS partner has in net worth rarely wear ties

But PE guys are Luddites who still wear suits/ties like IBers from '90s or '80s (even tech IBers in Menlo/SF gave up silly ties by mid '90s)

Your question is a good one. You may want to consider colors and patterns first rather than brands. I imagine your goal is to inspire confidence with your clothes in which case any classic conservative tie from Brooks Brothers will work for you. Ralph Lauren purple label has nice classics also with typically better silk, construction and interlining than Brooks Brothers. Both brands can be found on sale. So in summary I am saying stay away from fashion and go for conservative classics. Good luck with your shopping.

I personally find Ralph Lauren Black Label ties to be the most versatile out there. They are fairly thin, but would never be mistaken for skinny. The patterns are classic yet very, very sharp. I have ones that I'd just as easily wear with a suit to a job interview as I would with jeans for a night out and have it look proper in both circumstances. In particular, their rep ties and polka dot ties have a way of conveying class while saying "I'm not f*cking around."

Sam Hober makes a great tie to order ^^
Drakes
Turnbull & Asser
RLPL
Run of the mill Brooks Bros is all you really need

Also, I dont really know what Hermes makes you look like a douche. They're great quality ties, and there is lots of selection away from the obvious

By the way, this should be the mandatory wall street uniform:
