^good point. I'm pretty familiar w/ AS sizing though now. My first pair pair I got on eBay for around $50 new. They still may be my best-fitting shoes. Before committing to higher end purchases, I experimented for a few years with new and used shoes from eBay and thrift stores. Averaging around $20 a pair, I bought used pairs from different manufacturers (EG, Alden, AS, C&J, Church's, etc.) to see which styles/lasts/colors/sizes I preferred. Now I'm getting stuff I hope to have for the next forty years or so.

Thanks, LC. They aren't shell but a thick, analine leather, I think, that Chay thought would hold up well to weather and other abuse but still develop some good character.

Thanks guys. I'm not sure which last it is. I think it's the AS 19. Chay selected something based on my feedback from a pair of 99s and a pair of 87s.

Edit: It's the 48 last.

Emptym great boots. I had a few questions if anyone can answer. I assume the boots are MTO.

1. Does AS let you design the shoes anyway you want based on their last, like semi-bespoke?

2. Does Chay make adjustments to the last or shoe to accomodate, say a wider foot?

3. What does MTO run now?

1. Yep, mto and you can do anything from request soles, leather color, medallion type, etc. to design an entirely new model.

2. They have several lasts and sizes/widths. Chay is very good at fitting remotely ime.

3. I'm pretty sure prices vary depending on how unusual your request is.

I've worn them several times, including a couple times for half hour rides in the rain. They're very comfortable and very supportive. Great for walking and on the bike. Lots of neat little details like the loop in the back. Makes it easy to get on but doesn't get caught on even a pretty narrow pant leg. Thanks again to Chay and the others at AS!

Those really look nice. I was admiring how the loop was attached in the back so it doesn't stick out as well.
I'd be paranoid about accidentally kicking a sharp edge on the bike though.

Thanks D. The flash lightened them a little, and I have actually just changed the color a bit with some 20 yr old Tandy leather dye (leftovers from a kit I had as a kid). I darkened them a bit, but very subtly. They look a little more like the pictures AS sent me.

Thanks T. Whatever doesn't rip through the leather builds character! There are already grooves on the inside heels from shifting and braking. Boots are meant to be worn and used imo, but also well maintained. As I mentioned above, I do hope to get a few decades out of them.

I like how they do that slightly bevelled edge on the welt so it is not flat. It is a nice touch.
