The What Are You Wearing Today (WAYWT) Discussion Thread, Part II

I posted a pic a page ago in this thread. I wear a lot more SWD than CM these days, but I don’t pretend to have much worth sharing here. Gravitate toward a lot of SLP as a base (leathers, denim) and then mix in random stuff (from Kapital shirts / outerwear to random graphic tees to JMM...

Cool. “Tech Dad” is pretty rare in NYC. The dads at my daughter’s school are: ~25% Luxe Streetwear / Hype Dads, ~25% Menswear Dads, ~50% Dadwear Dads.

I’m fortunate that wearing a nice watch is not frowned upon in my job. Actually, can be a good conversation starter.

Lol you’re right. Should have put an analyst on this! I guess under 1% on marketing also felt unrealistically low.

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

Complicated question and impossible to be precise, but $900 is likely light. In recent years, Rolex has said that they have a ~30% operating margin. Separately, ADs have been reported to have a ~40% margin on Rolexes. That leaves ~30% of retail price for Rolex’s expenses. They have said they...

Dude, please. You have been obsessed with uncovering some nefarious truth about me since the moment you showed up here, as if you simply can’t wrap your mind around my existence. The subtext is clear.

So, you mean if I work really hard to make a lot less money, go from front office to back office to basement storage, and start telling people it’s actually a good thing that I’m personally and professionally knee-capped, I can then throw away my Nautilus and aspire to a Hamilton? A man can...

Ah. So you brought $70,000 to spend at the AD and they offered you a gold Nautilus, but you were like “Nah man, not a douchebag. Got a real watch, like a Hamilton?” Sounds like perfectly real conversation.

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

I just think caring about whether a watch is a “DB” watch is misguided to begin with. The truth is, all of the watches mentioned—the Nautilus, the RO, Richard Mille, the Daytona, the Day-Date—are all exceptional watches with substantial intrinsic merit that have rightfully attained the status...

Actually, the Daytona and Nautilus are both considerably more unique than the Datejust, particularly the Nautilus. By many, many magnitudes. Patek makes maybe ~75-100 5811s a year. How many Datejusts come out of Rolex annually? 50,000? 100,000? 300,000?

That’s the lobster and sweetbreads in puff pastry (last photo). I prefer their standard sweetbreads dish they serve with dinner. Unbelievably good.

For sure, for sure. F*ck that garbage. Who wants hypey and douchie when you can pick something horologically unique and original like a Datejust! Or a … Hamilton!
