Things that are pissing you off- Food & Drink Edition

I am sick and tired of restaurants refusing to serve genre-appropriate beers. Two examples: Contigo in Noe Valley - a spanish tapas restaurant - serves a huge IPA and some weird japanese rice beer ... and not once in ten years has carried something basic that you would drink with tapas, let...

Lace up boots recommendation (since RRL can't get their act together)

Here are the boots I would like to buy: http://www.ralphlauren.com/product/index.jsp?productId=65636206&parentPage=family (RRL livingston leather boot, brown) However, it appears they just flip coins or something to determine what colors of these they will make, or if they will make them at...

    The Home Ownership Thread

You have to do the rebar. That's the only way. I wouldn't even do a BBQ grill pad without rebar. It's more complicated and epensive, but it's The Right Way and the pad will crack without it. Again, remember that it has to be in the middle (in your case, 2" from the bottom) to work...

    The Home Ownership Thread

I think you could probably do that yourself - 600sf isn't that large and it's not rocket science ... If you're already getting the compactor, I would be sure to compact the grade first, unless it was undisturbed and is rock solid. Then compact the road base that you put underneath the...

Red Wing 4556 Iron Ranger Boots with flannel suit ?

Ok, what about these: http://www.ralphlauren.com/product/index.jsp?productId=65636206&parentPage=family Would those work with a flannel suit, or is a lace up boot not a good fit at all ?

Red Wing 4556 Iron Ranger Boots with flannel suit ?

Comments on wearing these boots: http://www.brooksbrothers.com/Red-Wing-for-Brooks-Brothers-4556-Iron-Ranger-Boots/MH00388,default,pd.html with a thick flannel suit, while in very inclement weather ? Not just cold, but several inches of snow on the ground, etc. I think they look quite good...

Custom suits by Oxxford at Wingtip San Francisco ... comments ?

I'm a bit put off by the thought of a "sack suit", however, I also have a bespoke Samuelsohn - I wonder if Oxxford has similar styling, since they are both somewhat old fashioned american brands ? I am very happy with the Samuelsohn, so if they're along the same lines I have nothing to...

Custom suits by Oxxford at Wingtip San Francisco ... comments ?

Well, the price range of $4000 was what I was told for a MTM three piece suit in middle-of-range fabric choices. I imagine if you chose the lower end fabric book and only made a two-piece suit you might get a price with a 2-handle on it ... not sure.

Custom suits by Oxxford at Wingtip San Francisco ... comments ?

A year or ... two ... ago ? Wasn't there a styleforum meetup at wingtip ? How did that go ? Were folks impressed with their bespoke tailoring (the things they do downstairs) ? I'd really love to hear from someone who actually had a suit made there ... I think I've read all I need to...

Custom suits by Oxxford at Wingtip San Francisco ... comments ?

Odd that the oxxford website has no catalog or examples ... or anything at all, really: http://www.oxxfordclothes.com/

Custom suits by Oxxford at Wingtip San Francisco ... comments ?

I would like to have a bespoke suit made. I spoke to the people downstairs at wingtip, in san francisco, and the top of their line is a brand called "Oxxford". I see very favorable things written about that brand here on SF, as relate to the quality and workmanship. I also saw some comments...

Glenlivet XXV is ... terrible ??

Two and a half years ago I bought a bottle of Glenlivet XXV. It was exactly as I expected - sublime. Perfectly balanced, deep, rich ... again, just exactly what I would have hoped for in a $300+ bottle of whiskey that is very highly regarded. So, exactly one year ago, I bought another bottle...

    Any One for a Scotch?

Hmmm... I guess I'm thinking of glenlivet as somewhat plain or unadorned ... it's very, very good, of course, but it doesn't have that defining characteristic of smoke and peat that the Islay malts have. So I'm looking for something that has something equally as defining and...

    Any One for a Scotch?

I am looking to round out my regular scotches by balancing Ardbeg uigeadail with ... something else that would be its opposite. My baseline, the center, is Glenlivet 25. That is staying put as the "control" in the middle. But I also really like Ardbeg uigeadail ... or something equally as...

Wingtip store in downtown San Francisco ... fully custom ? Made in USA ?

Right. That was my thought. I *want* it to be substantive, as I would, in fact, like a glass of scotch and walk through your hip store and some guy getting his hair cut and so on ... but that's the kind of thing that never actually works.

Wingtip store in downtown San Francisco ... fully custom ? Made in USA ?

Nobody ? I wil wait until after the meetup then, and ask again... Have fun!

Wingtip store in downtown San Francisco ... fully custom ? Made in USA ?

Spent a little time at Wingtip in SF last week ... I see that it is part of the styleforum meetup in February. Any thoughts or general comments on what is going on downstairs ? They are offering fully custom suits in the $4 - $5 - $6k range, depending on fabric, which are made in the USA. A...

Some sticker shock at wilkes bashford san francisco...

I need some new suits made this year - perhaps two or three. The last time I had a MTM suit made was in 2008 and it was a Samuelsohn. Three piece suit, roughly $2800 or so ? Perfectly happy with it. I was expecting to step up a bit in price since, at WB, I would be looking at Zegna and...
