    Art

I've been enjoying this thread anonymously for a while and thought I'd post a recent acquisition. I just got this up on the wall from a local guy. It's hard to see in the picture but he makes intricate collages with a layer of resin between each addition that creates a wonderful depth. The...

    define alcoholism

There is no line one crosses into alcoholism. Like all existential dilemmas it has much more in common with "do unto others" than "2 + 2." As much as we want easy, scientific answers like "no more than a glass of wine a day" the arbitrary nature of these standards...

The official thrift/discount store bragging thread

Two pairs of shoes today - a pair of Alden double-sole cordovan derbies..... Congrats on the Aldens. I've only ever found one pair of Alden shells here in Chicago, but they are not as versatile as these. I've always been surprised how few Aldens I see here. Lots of other stuff, and good stuff...

    What are you reading?

Wow, that's a surprising reference point. I liked it more than CfD (which I read once a long time ago). It's also very different in sensibility than CfD. To oversimplify, I think CfD's protagonist was a very characteristically European-American nutcase. The protagonist in Wao is very much rooted...

The official thrift/discount store bragging thread

Chicago's got a different dynamic to it and since I'm in the city proper, I don't have access to the nice suburban thrift stores (and I live on the wrong side of town for the stores that are in the city) What side of Chicago doesn't have thrift stores? They seem to be on every other corner...

FS: Watermelon Pocket Squares and Weejuns

I bought these Weejuns at a thrift store with the hope someone here would like them. They are brand new and don't appear to have ever been worn. 9 1/2 D. They do have some very small holes in the upper from the stapled on price tag; I tried to take a picture of them but they are just too subtle...

Who's the most overrated so-called beauty?

You're crazy. She is absolutely gorgeous. And smart. I love her. Where does this notion that she is "smart" come from? Did I just miss that Access Hollywood exclusive or what?

Slow pickings recently. I stopped by the really cheap salvation army after work yesterday and found something I've been needing, a blue blazer (1.50). It's a darted Brooks Brothers model and it's half lined so I won't have much of a problem bringing it in just a bit. I admit it is nothing too...
