I seriously doubt he's even active enough to have an informed opinion on that. Older Rolex bracelets are great to wear.

Busy design; seems like it would be annoying to keep clean. Lots of places for wrist cheese to collect. :p Anyway, for that money in an 18K bracelet watch, I'd rather have something from AP.

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

It's a very high-grade movement, but its architecture is over half a century old. Nonetheless, I personally wouldn't let the put me off the watch; it's ridiculously nice and nothing that I've seen looks better on the wrist. Besides, you can semi-quickset it by cycling back and forth between 10...

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

I'd reserve judgment until seeing actual photos. It's difficult to get much of an impression from a rendering that crudely-done. :bored:

    Lets talk about COFFEE

My pleasure. If it helps your case, you could try arguing that as long as you're buying good beans, you can't afford not to own a vac pot! :teach: Seriously — the bang/buck ratio is way better than an espresso setup, plus they're maintenance-free and look nice. Beats FP every time for brew...

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

Depends on the cuff. ;) It fits just fine on the type of shirts that I'd actually wear with that type of watch. It's a bit snug with how I get my dressier cuffs done, but I have other watches for that, so it's a non-issue. Also, the sharply-scalloped edges on the bezel will eventually fray the...

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

The chunkiness is one of my favourite things about the watch. The mid-case is only a bit fatter than the Sub's, so it keeps the family resemblance, but the thicker caseback and bezel together with the raised-and-bevelled crystal give the Sea-Dweller a really distinctive look. The effect...

Nice! This came up locally and I'm pretty tempted... ...but I'm wondering if I should wait for one in white gold. ? Condition is decent overall for a forty-year-old watch too. What do you guys think?

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

I dunno, it seems like it's possible to appreciate the unique OQ without knocking Rolex's later watches, which continue to lead the industry in mechanical terms.

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

I wouldn't go so far as to say that it's the last "real" Rolex, but I sure do like the OQ. There's certainly a lot to appreciate about the watch, both in design and execution. It's a favourite on the wrist for sure, and the wide bracelet makes it wear bigger than any other 36 mm Datejust...

Chrono24 pricing tends to be pretty optimistic. Get the watchrecon app and set up a notification for 16610LV listings instead. :teach:

Yeah, we'll see what happens. On the other end of the scale, there's a 2003 LV out there that's just been "reduced" to 36K.

Market's already coming down. Seeing some blue-chip watches listed locally for 30% below what they would have even a few weeks ago, and more like 40%+ when you consider that the currency has taken a nosedive too. :p Case in point: 16610LV Sub full set from 2008 in pretty nice condition for 8400...

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

They were always quite deferential — it’s impossible to find a critical review — but the shift to straight-up advertorials really got underway about four or five years ago when they partnered up with tech money and started releasing their own branded editions with some of the watch companies...

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

OK, I change my vote. That watch is just insanely good-looking. I much prefer the classic metal bezel to the ceramic one. Eh, they still work fine for me; I regularly do stuff like skiing, swimming and diving with 4-, 5- and 6-digit references. If anything, the newer models are even better...

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

For sure. It's just that in the hypothetical situation where I'm limited to just one Rolex, I'm gonna be wearing it every day for everything, so I'd go with platinum for the extra toughness and the characteristic patina that it develops with wear.

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

It just gets rounded off and starts looking kinda ****** over time, especially on the contact areas of the bracelet. Platinum is noticeably more hard-wearing and keeps its edges far better. Not an issue for people who are super-cautious about how they wear their watches, but that ain't me. On...
