OK, now I know you guys are just forking with me. What type of japanese maple whiskey pairs best with 5A Wagyu? Don't make me google this.

I have land now and still don't know how to buy trees by the gallon or what flavors of japanese maple pair best with the mouthfeel of my soil. Am I in the whisky thread?

Me when this thread turns to horticulture. It's not that I don't appreciate the content, it's that it's so far removed from my life that I sometimes wonder if you guys are making up all of these words. Like am I being punked or is this real life?

Talking stocks, trading, and investing in general

Rivian's market cap is still $9B. There are only a handful of potential acquirers and when you look at their market caps, very few would pay that much, let alone significantly more. Assuming that market cap info is correct, here's who I have as remotely potential acquirers: 1. Stellantis -...

    Cars We Drive!

If you're going to LARP, you should do it with a verve that fits within your broader car portfolio. In addition to the LARPer immaculate overlanders I mentioned a few weeks back, I've also started to see a few Ineos Grenadiers in Tahoe. I'm honestly not sure what to think about them yet. If...

    Cars We Drive!

Sure, but just like the 2WD 4R which makes no sense, only the base trims are configurable without the hybrid (and the third row). The TRD Pro and Trailhunters come with the hybrid exclusively. There were some strange concessions that had to be made - the second row seats don't fold flat any...

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

It's odd to me that they chose a base reference where the minute track is actually in the correct place (eg outside the hour markers). If you are creating an unusable watch, you may as well leverage your trademark inner minute ring to add that extra oomph of style over design.

    Cars We Drive!

About time they redesign the thing but this suffers from a lot of the same problems their other body on frame SUVs do. Excessively poor packaging and 4 cylinder engines that disappoint the diehards and don’t really bring that much of an improvement in fuel economy. The interior is...

Ick, no one wants to look at that grotesque naked column wheel. Cap that ish like Patek, amirite? The watch industry has figured out what hollywood did years ago. Creativity isn't rewarded commercially so most of the box office is monetizing previous success. Whether it's a reboot, a sequel or...

The Official Skiing / Snowboarding / Playing in the Snow Thread

LOL just got videos of some of the kids from the run I mentioned. Now that I've seen the video (which isn't the best view unfortunately), I can see that my grom didn't exactly crush it but I'm still proud of the effort. Here's an example from the group of another kid who did in fact smash it.

Yeah the 2 most efficient chairs at our hill (with great terrain) are ~300 ft of vert per minute. If the lines are forgiving, that gets you about 6-8k vert ft. per hour. On weekend powder days, the guys I know usually get a group together to rent a ski instructor so they can skip lines (makes...

The Official Skiing / Snowboarding / Playing in the Snow Thread

I'm not sure how far down I ranked but the top person is over 2M vert. I just checked and one of the dudes I've skied with a few times is #2 and averages 30k+ per day. He told me during one of the last storms that he got 200k in 4 days midweek! And that is almost exclusively skiing off-piste. I...

Long post incoming - end of season wrapup. tl;dr, had a great season, kids and I made a ton of progress, already looking forward to 2024-5. Probably skied my last day of the season yesterday. Handed back the kids' seasonal rentals, so they are almost definitely done. There is a chance I head...

The Official Skiing / Snowboarding / Playing in the Snow Thread

Going up tonight for a 3 day weekend which will be our last skiing of the season. It was a very interesting year - started out really lame but genuinely got better throughout the season. Snow is still great (it's snowing as I type this) so it's not even really spring skiing right now. I think...

Really intriguing. I don’t spend much time on groomers these days (and when I do they tend to be crowded ones I need to use to relocate) but every time I see one of those carv videos, it makes me want to go bomb some. The metrics you are talking about don’t match what the language the coaches...

What a great story! Just wanted to highlight how awesome it is that you do this. This past weekend had some of the best snow of the season but my favorite moment was when I was on the chairlift and saw a sit skier dropping off a ~10 ft cliff. My kids are fascinated by the adaptive ski program...

General Bike Thread (Desiderata, Questions, Pics)

Thanks for posting - this is pretty compelling. It also seems consistent with my understanding which is that right now hookless rims for road cyclists ask riders to make a different tradeoff than hooked rims and the net benefit is at best arguable. For MTB, totally different story.
