Black shoes and navy suit is the standard "gentleman's uniform" again, if you are seriously advocating the brown shoe blue suit outfit over wearing black shoes as if somehow wearing black shoes is the lesser choice... it's time to step back from the forum and blog advice. I think brown shoes...

It's a matter of preference, despite everything you read on here and elsewhere, there is no right length, within reason. I have "party" suits with shorter jacket compared to my "conservative" suits. Factors such as age, height, and build will dictate the "right" length for you.

Brooks Brothers brought back unlined (?), softer collar OCBD for that roll, for that Trad enthusiast

There are threads elsewhere on style internets, and none here so here it is: Brooks Brothers spring new arrivals includes OCBDs touting: No one is sure if these are unlined, and since it isn't explicitly stated, perhaps safe to assume just softer lining ? There is a price increase (140)...

The State of Black Tie: Your Observations

I am under 30 (though close to it) perhaps that has something to do with my sentiment of black tie seeming boring. and like I said, not to offend anyone, but outside of small circle of clotheshorses and dandy aspirants and fops, no one will care if you aren't wearing "classic" men's black tie...

The State of Black Tie: Your Observations

I never realized how boring traditional black tie looks... it's funny, to other non-style forumites, I bet they think that the tuxedo/dinner suit is top notch just by virtue of the black and white ensemble (they won't nitpick on lapels and studs etc). but I see more of a boring black...

NYE Emergency. Only have Grey suit

Unless it said very clearly "black tie" formal typically means "suit and tie with dress shoes" I could be wrong, because technically "formal attire" can mean black tie (or white tie), but no one says this anymore meaning black tie because formal to most people simply means "jacket and tie"...

@gator 88 Just take any decent off the rack shirt to a good alterations tailor. I stopped looking for that 'good fitting shirt' off the rack a long time ago. Now Anything that fits relatively well is a buy and my tailor can make it fit well. Probably not the answer you were expecting, but...

@ YOLO EMSHI Thanks dude, but Christ those are all hideous. I guess I have to admit I am inclined to the Prep/American heritage look, if that helps.

Suggestions for casual light jacket (not a sport coat or the like). Not really for the true winter cold as I live in Los Angeles. Never really liked cardigans, don't like jumpers. Perplexed because I usually can't find the right thing for me (guess im picky like all of us). I don't want...
