    The Official-ish DC Thread

If you want something from the old Hickey Freeman factory with the old Hickey Freeman workers, hit up @Epaulet. They are doing both their own cuts as well as the HF patterns, and patterns from several other makers as well through Rochester Tailored Clothing.

My wife and did the Inn about 10 years ago. We stayed at another B&B in Little Washington b/c the room rate was outrageous. The service was impeccable. The wine list and drinks were incredible. Some of the food was great. Some of it was just good. The best I've had in the DC area is Pineapple...

Really like that one. I am planning to get something with a moon phase eventually. The problem is the one I like most is the Lange One moonphase and my second choice is the JLC Master Perpetual Calendar (the one from the 90s). They're a big step up from my price range - in fact the Lange is...

+2. I only dry-clean my suits if I buy them from eBay or if they are stained. Otherwise, I do it as rarely as possible. That said, I only use Parkway for suits, jackets, overcoats and other tailoring. I would never use them for shirt laundering or less expensive items like sweaters or odd...

The biggest problem with Pike and Rose is the parking. They should have setup parking on the outskirts so people had to walk to the center area. Instead, they funnel the cars toward the center to park in the two garages, but it's hard to get through to the garages b/c it's so narrow with lots of...

Epaulet shop - Official Affiliate thread

I got my first pair of laidback pants (sashiko) last week. The inseam is incredibly long for me. I normally tailor pants to 28.5 or 29" so 36" is something else. I know a lot of people roll the bottom, but 7" of rolling is too heavy and weighs the pants down. Does anyone have any suggestions...

Lots fewer people working downtown during the week than there were before the onset of the pandemic. A lot of the sandwich places are gone. I assume there's a lot of vacant office space above the vacant street level walk in quick food establishments. They should probably convert some of the...

I use Divij - previously MyTailor or Hemrajani Brothers. His factory is in Hong Kong. Turnaround can be between 4 and 8 weeks depending on how busy they are. Divij himself is better than M Kenny who also travels for him to this area. There's a thread on SF about his style/work.

Who makes a wool fleece jacket?

Based on the original advice, i bought the American Trench fleece. The backing is poly; I would have preferred cotton, but what can you. It's good. Pretty warm. Well constructed. Can't say re: long-term b/c I've only had it a couple months.

Nice rig. Will love to hear back how many others are in proper black tie with a self-tie bow.

I'd go up half a size in Grant, Plaza, and Hampton lasts, among several others. Trubalance tends to be one of the lasts that runs large.

As someone who played softball for years where the African American History Museum now stands, this pic is stunning to me. As originally built, the Lincoln Memorial was much more breath taking. Like the Acropolis must have looked in Ancient Greece. Surrounding the Memorial with cement, roads...

Trubalance was originally an orthopedic last. Also, the Thomas heel is supposed to provide more arch support than most other heels. I'm sure the shank helps. My English dress shoes with wooden shanks generally provide more side support with a closer fit through the vamp, but that doesn't provide...

The bane of Eleanor Holmes Norton's existence. At every hearing on aviation, she complains about noise along the Palisades from inbound/outbound aircraft. Metroplex likely helped a little, but with so much restricted airspace, there is really only a N/S flow or a S/N flow along the river.

DCA basically uses a 1 RWY operation on 1/19. It's actually the busiest runway in the national airspace system. 4/22 is rarely if ever used. It's not much farther from the stage.

They bought and retain the name and the marks. They sold the equipment and factory. Another Northampton shoemaker helped Paul Sargent buy the equipment back. It looks like the new AS is based in France. All of the stockiest are in France. They don't say where the shoes have been manufactured...

Aren't we all. Shoulders fit well. Arm length looks good. Try it with two tennis balls to check the chest.
