That's exactly what it is. Back in the day (before White's and Baker's started customizing everything), the difference was the backstay. On all of White's work boots there is a separate heel counter and backstay. The Semi-Dress is a single piece of leather. That used to be the only difference...- andy b.

I'm no boot expert or boot builder, but I've noticed that on several pairs of PNW boots, and most of the Nicks have it. Keep in mind there are multiple layers of leather in the heel counter. Are you certain about the heel? My pair of BH have about 5 pieces of leather in the heel stack. Yours look like about 2. With that leather midsole and thick leather outsole, that looks lowered to me.- andy b.

Just to add to what Shuyler said, if you go with a double midsole and the lug sole, it's too thick to stitch through, so it isn't even an option to ask for it. I have several pairs of double midsole boots that aren't stitched through the outsole, and have never had an issue with the sole...- andy b.

My first Thoroughbred toe Packers were Whites. It was an adventure getting the sizing correct. For me, 1/2 length longer and one width narrower versus the standard Smokejumper works great. But each individual is different.- andy b.

If you plan on wearing the thickest wool boot socks you can find, go up one size in width. The rough out is fairly indestructible. Over time if you treat it with something like Obenaufs, it starts to look almost like waxed flesh. I don't even use a horse-hair shoe brush on mine, I just use a...- andy b.

Not to muddy the waters, but I wear a 10 in Nikes and most other normal footwear. If I'm going with thick hiking socks, 9.5D in Nick's seems good. If more normal weight hiking socks, 9.5C. The standard Nike 10 is slightly too wide, but not enough to worry about. That seems to align with...- andy b.
