Started with Doc Martens, back to Doc Martens...

back in University days, like many people I was an admirer of Doc Martens, they are just cool. This interest carried through to my first few jobs. I also grew a large interest in watches. Also when I graduated, I fell in love with a pair of RM Williams in the window and was fascinated with the...

    Chelsea boot fit

wow. Thanks so much for this advice!! Thanks! (I didn't understand his description, it sounded like something was added in the toe area which didn't make sense to me).

    Chelsea boot fit

I want to ressurrect this thread rather than create a new one. I have exactly this problem: nice fitting around the toes, but loose around the ankles. There is a "heel slip" cushion that can be purchased that sticks to the counter and can make the fitting around the ankle more snug...

Thursday Storm King - Hiking Confusion

Wow.. clear and precise! Thanks! To answer your question about "difficulty" - I just use the regular ratings given when you look up the difficulty of the trail on the internet. It's something that at least is a means of comparison that people can understand, rather than my own made-up...

Thursday Storm King - Hiking Confusion

Ah.. thanks for that dose of reality. The danger when getting into any new hobby at the beginning, is to hear only the perspective of a select few and then go too far in the wrong direction based on a "Dunning Kruger" level of understanding on the subject. I always loved the look of stitched...

Thursday Storm King - Hiking Confusion

Thanks for the thoughts. It's kinda hard to express what I was trying to say from the beginning, as I am fairly new to the world of high-quality shoe making. Only a few months ago I bought my first goodyear welted boot: a Grant Stone Brass in Kudu, and then went ahead and bought proper...

Thursday Storm King - Hiking Confusion

Thanks for the thoughts. I'm not comparing Thursday Storm King with other heritage boots. I get it that compared with much better quality heritage boots, OTHER heritage boots might be better for hiking. I am comparing them with what most people wear for hiking: purely cemented construction...

Thursday Storm King - Hiking Confusion

I have loved heritage boots for over 30 years, but have only recently learned what on earth they really are. I have learned all about Goodyear Welts and the truth behind actually well-made boots thanks to the likes of Rose Anvil and others. But here's the thing I don't get: the Thursday Storm...

Grant Stone - Official Affiliate Thread

I am considering getting the Bison leather, but I'd like to know if it requires more frequent, less frequent or the same frequency of maintenance as cow leather? One of the things that attracted me to Kudu is that it is less maintenance than cow leather. How about Bison? Thanks!
