AlanMac, if that is your normal stance, then the back is too long and piling up where all those horizontal wrinkles are. If the back neckline was lowered and shoulder seams adjusted until the excess is lifted up until back is smooth.... If you have excess in the back width and length, is the...

Unfunded Liabilities: a/k/a The Cloth Thread

The pants and the vest color is to much and doesn't go with the white shirt. Vest would be better as a light blue. The coat very nice.

The Tailors' Thread: Fit Feedback and Alteration Suggestions

You don't show a side view, but it looks like the front neck line should go up. The whole back looks larger than it should. If the back needs to be smaller, then the front needs to be that much larger. Other shirt manufacturers would have their own patterns. One of them may have a better...

The Tailors' Thread: Fit Feedback and Alteration Suggestions

Some of you guys should crop your pictures before posting. For example, the restroom sink is a huge distraction. Some other pictures the flash should have been on. Some cloth is very dark and if the camera's light sensor is not on the dark it is sometimes impossible to see important details.

The top edge of the pants is the wrong shape for your body. If you push that crease up to the waistband and make a chalk line then you can undo the waistband chalk a new curve that dips down to the chalk line (a gentle curve) and resew the waistband following that line. Another way is to...

    Custom Suiting Toronto

If you ask those who started at the age of 12 they will say it is better to have started at the age of 6 than 12. Maybe children should learn to walk at the age of 15 instead of younger than 2. But, at the very young age children's bodies can fall and land at those very odd angles that they...

I wouldn't call it a style. The lapel is pulled up causing it to roll sooner than it should. If he cut the collar ends wider the lapels can be lifted and lower to determine exactly the best fit, and pin each exactly in place. It is very sloppy for extra room. The cloth below the midsection...

The grey suit looks terrible. Perhaps you slipped it on wrong. The lapel rolls past the button. Meaning the collar is to curved. The lapel button hole could be much better, since that one is for show. The back isn't sitting into the hollow of the small of the back, and yet the fronts...

How many boys asked to become tailors? These boys were not forced into the trade. No doubt some boys were. Then there were the boys who were not fast enough who were told to find a different trade a few years down the road. Any boy knows there are advantages to making your own clothes. You...

    Double Breasted Style.

It might look better with a different background behind it. I really don't like the waist style. It could be more flamboyant instead of hugging his body. But, the way he is standing distorts the fit.

Gosh! If I could be your old age I'd be somethun like 20 to 30 years younger. What a lucky boy you are at your old age.

You are right. Credit due where credit is due. Factories and robots, robots are kinda new. Small children have plenty of time when not in school. With them an Apprenticeships are stretched. But, handling thimble, needle and thread, and cloth is best taught at a very young age. Some...

my visit to Napoli & Mina @ Napoli Su Misura

Why do tailors keep raising prices each year? Supply and demand, and they can. Find unknown tailors that are just as good and their prices will probably be reasonable. Bench made is more time consuming with more opportunity to make better garments, so naturally will cost more than that which is...

The State of Black Tie: Your Observations

That was a quick reply. Got one pocket watch that needs a crystal and probably some other work, like to get done. A couple of battery pocket watches (Dad had a stroke and interest is gone with them). Then there is another one with a chain. Maybe someday I'll start using them. When done well it...

Andy57, The watch chain attached to the vest. Do your vest have a vertical hole for the watch chain? Or, do you use one of the horizontal button holes?

    Double Breasted Style.

All thru my childhood single and double breasted coats were the norm for any age except for one year olds and younger. And, of course, young men were in the adult section with lots of either. Before cars had heaters DB were really nice in the colder months because they were warmer. Horse and...
