The Tailors' Thread: Fit Feedback and Alteration Suggestions

You are absolutely correct. I think it is a nice suit overall, and yes, no choice now but to own the suit, both literally and metaphorically :D It also goes without saying that in the future I'll be a bit more prudent on what colour to select. It is what it is at this stage. Also I imagine...

The Tailors' Thread: Fit Feedback and Alteration Suggestions

General question: I recently got a linen suit made (MTM option). Unfortunately the suit is way more 'yellow' than I originally realised from the swatch that I had selected several months ago. Does anyone have any experience re-dying linen? (assuming it is even possible..!) As a side note, I...

    Paying my 'school fees'

A short update if I may. So, in the end, the MTM experience for my wedding suit turned out alright. I guess it was a number of alterations and back and forth but the final suit now looks really good. Had I known what to look for from the first fitting the whole process would have been faster...

How much, per annum, do you spend on your wardrobe?

Bit of a bump on an old thread. I haven't spent much at all on 'formal' clothing over the past 3-4 years. I did buy one suit a year ago at around 500 GBP. Recently in the run up to my wedding, I decided to invest in a formal wardrobe as it was pretty lacking outside of a few ill-fitting suits...

She sounds amazing. It's finding someone like her who is honest. Too many over promise and under deliver sadly.

    Paying my 'school fees'

Yes I think 'one' issue with MTM is perhaps a lack of communication between client and tailor / front of shop sales guy with what MTM can actually do / acheive. I paid good money for this MTM. The upside is that you can pick the material versus the more limited OTR options, but in reality I...

    Paying my 'school fees'

Amen sir! My lesson learned was very similar. Best to leave the shoulders as they are, if not the whole blazer minus potentially minor sleeve height adjustment. Your issue re the pulled back arms sounds very similar to mine. We're wiser for it.

How many pairs of shoes do you own?

Bit of a bump on this thread - I have recently upgraded my cabinet, partly in the build up to my weddding. Over the past year I was pretty much wearing 'pleather' shoes to work for the past year or so, so some investment was needed. Right now I have a pair of: - Brown leather oxfords (varied...

    Paying my 'school fees'

Hi BR, yes agreed. I think this 'good enough' philosophy is probably the best route forward all things considered. These lessons are worth a lot and at least going forward I will be wise enough not to let a tailor start messing around with more complex alterations unless I'm absolutely convinced...

    Paying my 'school fees'

Hi Breakaway, completely agree with you on the final para. I think part of my issue with my old suit that I got tailored is that it was from a few years ago, and I've lost some weight since then. And I would have probably been better off just buying a new OTR suit, with, as you say, less...

    Paying my 'school fees'

Hello all, first timer on here. Been lurking on here for a while reading advice though. I wanted to post just to collect my thoughts somewhat about my relatively recent adventures (or misdaventures) into the world of sartorialism. For context, I'm a groom, getting married in a few weeks. I...
