Gift Ideas for my Dad---He likes to ride his bike

He recently started riding a road bike and wants something for it. I know many sf'ers are into this stuff. What is something pretty cool I can get him. Budget is between 50-100. Thanks guys. Why not something warm ? Rapha makes some nice items, albeit expensive, but at least wearable off the...

Shoe Damage Report & Appreciation Central - Part I

More John Lobb. Can anyone identify any of these shoes? The first two pictures are the "Towcester", a new model for this fall. Cost EUR. 750.00 in Paris. I saw them last week, I think that pair looks great, especially in suede. The tassel loafer is named the "Buckingham". And the boots are the...

    shopping in switzerland

Gee thanks for all the info. Any recs for Basel? In Basel you have to visit "Kohler Herrenmode" on the Freie Strasse. The store carries a little but nice selection of EG and C&J (both bench- and handgrades). The EG cost CHF 1000.- (815 dollars). Then go down the street and buy some very nice...

The Ultimate Collection of Shoe Appreciation

Lionel, this pair looks stunning! Did you use your preferred Burgol wax? How exactly did you apply the bleach and how did you control its effect? Hi Sysdoc, Thank you for the kind words. This is my method concerning this pair: 1. I stripped the old wax/cream off using aceton. You have to...

    Saphir Shoe Care Products

If you need a global view of the Avel products, go to valmour.fr. By the way, Avel produces an amazing range of woodcare products called "Louis XIII". I highly recommend their "Pâte de Luxe" for wood, which is available in a variety of colours. I don't know if Mr. Vallez, the owner, accepts...

The Ultimate Collection of Shoe Appreciation

Lionel, the Ecton has got a heel counter, but a very sexy one. I think that this shoe is in fact prettier than JL's Portman, but that's partly because I just prefer the EG-typical narrow welt. Sysdoc, I agree with your statement about the JL Portman. I was referring to this model, which...

The Ultimate Collection of Shoe Appreciation

How about those? Anybody know the name of these? Hint: The name ain't "Dover". Hi Sysdoc, Wow, can't believe you've got the new Ecton! I really like these, and the lack of heel counter makes them even greater than the Dover!

Pix of most desired pair of shoes at the moment?

RJMan, Are you sure that Old England carry Grensons? Last time I was there (latest fall), they sold EG, Lobb Paris and Church's but no trace of Grenson. Maybe I get labelblind...

    Flusser Books

Very good point, but you forget the Timberland boat shoes in the description of the standard upper-class german citizen . Germans seem to admire England and its way of life. See the iconic "Rosamunde Pilcher" movies. All the implements of the english gentleman are represented (barbour, tweed...

New Edward Green model: the Monmouth

Thank you Horace. My appetite for the Friedrich's work is very difficult to satisfy. Beethoven and he help me to soften these snowy swiss winters. These EG's are the next on my list. They would be perfect with cords, moleskins and jeans. An excellent complement to the Dover.

New Edward Green model: the Monmouth

I was looking for the Jun's website but, alas, I couldn't find it. Hope it will be back soon. Instead of that, I have found what it seems to be a new EG shoe, the Monmouth. I can't find it on my "integral" EG catalog, so I suppose it really is a new model. Oh, here is the source : Edward Jones

    Do you like fur?

I completely agree with Kai. The video was made by the swiss animal protection society (PSA) in China a few months ago. These images shocked many people here. The furs were intended to decorate the hoods of cheap jackets.
