Random Fashion Thoughts (Part 3: Style farmer strikes back) - our general discussion thread

Relatively smaller collab runs are bound to be more expensive to produce and more difficult to sell (new patterns, smaller fabric runs, limited interest). So, brands either have to charge higher prices than standard products or use cheaper materials if they want to keep the pricepoint lower.

Random Fashion Thoughts (Part 3: Style farmer strikes back) - our general discussion thread

But that Breithorn jacket is just so… boring ;) For technical down outerwear, I prefer Marmot, anyway. And I already own more than enough for that. I’ll definitely be wearing the Soukuu gear for fashion purposes, so I’m not too bothered. I was attracted to some of the early Gyakusou gear...

    Le De Bonne Facture Thread

It’s better to leave the pockets sewn shut during construction and shipping. I’d recommend using some small scissors rather than tearing.

Random Fashion Thoughts (Part 3: Style farmer strikes back) - our general discussion thread

Well, I went all-in on the TNFxUNDERCOVER SOUKUU collab, purchasing everything in the brown/blue colorway except the Nuptse jacket. To me, it's the perfect combination of favorite colors, weird gorpcore, TNF technical fabrics and construction, and Japanese design. Plus, it's all 50-60% off at...

General Bike Thread (Desiderata, Questions, Pics)

I've really liked the pair of 303S wheels I've been using since last season. It's a little scary when I hit a cross wind while descending at higher speeds, so I wouldn't go with any deeper rims unless you are planning on doing flat time trials or something. Having had a pair of Mavic Cosmic...

Ahh, spring is in the air! Flowers emerging, brush piles burning, and the ripe smell of thawing manure spread in the fields. We hit 60F, so I got out for another 27 miles today.

The unofficial NMWA Buy/Sell Thread (a.k.a. second chance thread)

I’m 6’3” 185lbs and a 50 Clint still fits me, albeit slim. I take a 50 or 52 in Valstar gear depending on how I want it to fit. Most of the time, I need a 52 to have enough room in the shoulders.

The unofficial NMWA Buy/Sell Thread (a.k.a. second chance thread)

I'm a Med-Lg as well and the Clint in 50 fits well. It's a slimmer fit, but I wouldn't really want a larger fit in it because the suede would probably be very drapey. It has a corduroy lining and I just wear it over a shirt in spring and fall. I wouldn't really want to wear it over a sweater.

    Le De Bonne Facture Thread

I slept on the problem and realized early this morning that I could add a small patch as you suggest and it would be covered by the large belt loop 👍 I think I must be a 51. If I buy 50, I have to let them out a little, and if I buy 52, I have to take them in.

    Le De Bonne Facture Thread

@deborah_dbf I ran into an issue with one of my newer pairs of hiking trousers. Because of how the excess waistband was cut away on the bottom of each side, it makes it impossible to let the trousers out in the waist at all (making them unwearable for me at the moment). In fact, because it was...

Yes, that, too! A friend of mine who's one of the top racers in the area has ridden tubeless for the past few years and he told me that he's only gotten one flat in that time, and that was because the tire was cut open.

General Bike Thread (Desiderata, Questions, Pics)

I run Zipp 303s hookless rims with 32mm Continental Grand Prix 5000 S TR tubeless tires. I actually find tubeless hookless tires to be easier to mount and manage than clincher tires with tubes. You have to be extra careful to not exceed the max tire pressure (72psi) with hookless rims or they...

Do you have a massage gun? I find mine is essential now that I’m over 50. I got out for 23 miles today on a beautiful spring afternoon. The fields were slowly turning green, and plenty of snow left on the mountains.

    Recent purchases - Part II

Well, I had written off getting any of this. But, when the universe presents it all at 50% off in my size, I take it as a sign. This line pretty much sold out in the US but is on clearance at a lot of EU shops. I feel like it could be paired well with Aran knits and leather hiking boots. If...

Discussions about the fashion industry thread

I remember back when a retailer would have to backorder something from a brand and then ship it to me. If it was something I really wanted, it was worth the wait. I’m wondering if the end result is that the Amazon model just doesn’t work for luxury goods and business is steered back to small...

Discussions about the fashion industry thread

And I suspect that some of the brands are forced to “stock” items for MrP until they are sold to the customer. I ordered a Valstar vest during the current sale and the tracking is originating in Milan, Italy.

Discussions about the fashion industry thread

I saw a quote from one of the Matches employees that they just laid a ton of people off with no severance package. They were one of my favorite retailers back when they used to carry DBF and Margaret Howell. I wonder if MrP’s 25% off everything sale is a harbinger of doom for them.

I still very much enjoy my old Cameramans and Mallorys. Although, at this point I wish I had bought them one size up back in the day 😅 The Mac/HT Cameraman really isn’t a winter coat. I find it’s a perfect coat for 45F/7C dreary weather. I wore mine all over Chicago in the rain yesterday (plus...
