Unfunded Liabilities: a/k/a The Cloth Thread

Speaking of Madras, I am interested to see members sharing experience with geniunne bleeding ones. I never had opportunity to touch one in person. There are a few patchwork RL and BB stuff I came across in the past but they all feel indifferently from the pieces I got from Taobao (which claimed...

Interesting thing with trousers is, they can be technically "a bit tight" (only in specific areas, not overall tight of course) but at same timewear very comfortably. That is why a lot of people refuse to believe their pants are "tight". Personal preference probably is not the only ground, it is...

Style or preference is one thing, but one will look better or more "balanced" if obvious mistakes are corrected. Trousers with great tensions at waist and crotch can never look good in anyone's eye. (Pictures are better to be taken either from a slightly lower angle or from distance to avoid...

Cutting and basting a jacket for wife from scratch. Still need to correct the front balance which is very challenging to amateur like me. The beefy cotton drill is great to work with but it requires high degree of precision and hides no mistakes.

The unbuttoned look is really flattering your shape but when buttoned it is less so. This is an indication of issues within the pattern--the front pieces are scissoring and likely the width (of the bottom of) back piece is not sufficient to cover your hip. Only talking from an extremist point of...

And sometimes it rolls reasonably well without padding at all.

No wonder... I have your photos saved in the past and was very surprised your shape changed so much...The photos were taken from an angle too high which exageratted the chest. It wouldn't look so strong shot from a lower angle. There are some minor issues with the bodies mainly caused by the way...

Love these. Is the highlighted part empty beneath (ie not having a bone or flesh supporting it)?

Really appreciate that. Extended dart to the bottom is def something I will try when I cut my own jacket at some point... Honestly I doubt that will make big difference. Darts will create shape/curve, not the volume. And I am short of phyical volume at crotch, not that I can't create shape (my...

I am cylindrical, possibly don't have drop or a very small one. As said, you may be able do trick with shoulders and chest with solid structures, but never with the lower part of the body. I know people with different body shape may have different headache... The cut actually does not matter...

Man that's my favourate jacket so far. I hate you! Joke aside, I suggest people to try in the future. They look fantastic in outdoor casual environment. Wear it with jeans/chino and white bucks. The only problem is I found noone off-the-rack has a good fit--of course there are people arguing...

Thanks for this. I''m fine with that as long as they start to look "technically correct" to some extent (not yet in fact). I am also fine with some other comments I received in the past like "you are so right but you don't look good at all". Not that I agree with them in the bottom of my heart...

To elaborate the point of back width: On the left is a picture I took before the alteration. You may note the back was already quite clean, but had a strong tendency to leave the body--it looks minor but the fact is they won't wrap the body naturally even if you pin them up. Without widening...

Hi guys. It has been a long while since I posted here last time. Over the past few months I have been altering literally whole of my wardrobe. I have identified some fundamental balance problems in the pattern my tailor has been using on me for almost 10 years. I tore the main seams apart and...

I am less worried about those. It a) is a matter of preference, and b) can be easily pinned out if I don't want them any more. I was more frustrated at some points that the balance was off, which didn't appear on my jackets for couple years. This was caused by the fact my body is asymmetrical...

Some really nice pieces here in the past few weeks. Congratulation guys. Finally I have had my jacket altered as planned: a small lift near the right shoulder blade to fix balance issue on the right side, both sleeves were rotated backward a little bit, and back piece was shortened from bottom...

The Tailors' Thread: Fit Feedback and Alteration Suggestions

First you need to make them fuller. You don't feel the tightness does not mean they are not tight. Second you probably need to adjust the front-back balance (which means a series of small adjustments, not just lifting the front/back. Experienced tailor should know it well).

It is one of the issues to be fixed. To be precise it is the prob with right piece, that fabrics at the back run to front. The right side panel needs a lift.

There are a few areas can be further refined, but I would leave it as it is for a while. The fabric, a Moon tweed, is too loose. Things may change through wearing.
