Okay, what in the world is up with J. Crew prices these days? They're now selling Baracuta G-9s for $390. This is at least $100, maybe more, than what I paid for one from J. Crew 4 years ago. My guess is anywhere from 6 to 12 or even 18 months or possibly quite a bit longer, depending on several factors: how much daily wear you give them, the conditions you wear them in (weather, etc.), the humidity in your house, and any number of unknown variables. Very odd. I don't think I've ever seen the "lightening up" of which you speak. Quite the contrary, as with most leather products, they tend to darken over time. OK. Tight around arches is one thing. I experience this too when they're new. Unable to get them on without a shoehorn because of tightness around the arches is quite another thing. They're just not made that way--there is huge room in the tongue and lace area to allow your foot to get in...- Robert

+2 It just doesn't make sense to me that these could ever be hard to slip on if you're anywhere near your correct size. They're made in a way that they virtually slip onto your feet.- Robert

To me Clarks look good when they get roughed in a bit. I don't think of them as a dress shoe, although I do try to keep my chocolate brown ones nice looking. But I don't obsess over it. I agree, A. I have Ludlow jackets and suits, and they fit me perfectly and I feel they are somewhat timeless. And I agree about the sweaters and collabs. There is still good stuff there, and I still shop there. Just seems like I am finding less there that interests me these days.- Robert
